Garritan Personal Orchestra

Just picked up GPO to do some scoring for a musical theater production. Any helpful hints about the install? It comes bundled with KONTAKT, OVERTURE, and CUBASIS VST. Should I install all the listed components. Do I really need KONTAKT, OVERTURE and CUBASIS VST if I'm planning on using the GPO as a Plug in in SONAR.

I'm running SONAR 3 PE on a laptop w/ a Steinberg ADAT - PCI card interface - and an external firewire hard drive. Currently most of my work has been live recording of digital audio. I don't have too much experience in MIDI or softsynths. Sorry away from the studio right now so can't give more particulars.

I can't afford for this install to cause downtime. Thanks in advance.

I'm quite certain the only thing you need to install in addition to GPO itself, is the Kontakt, which is the engine GPO uses.

Cubasis is another MIDI program, so you don't need it with SONAR, which has its own MIDI program. Overture is a notation program so that you can write notes in the staff and have the score played back. However, SONAR is not optimized for this. GPO was really designed to be played from a keyboard because many of the articulations are pitch wheel or CC controlled.
Be cautious using the Steinway. When composing, use the lite version and only use the full Steinway when you are rendering the MIDI to audio.

GPO plays through the Kontakt player. You'll probably want to use the VST plugin version of GPO instead of the DX version. You may not need to install GPO Studio, which is the standalone player. If you are scoring for a theatre production, and need to produce charts, then you might also want to install Overture, which you can use to turn your MIDI files into basic sheet music.

There's the imfamous DXi tempo change bug, where a note held through a tempo change does not reliably receive a note off. This does not occur with the VSTi version.
