You've obviously been doing plenty of guitar practise - very impressive.

If you're after any mixing tips, here's my thoughts:

You might want to mix the bass a bit louder. The drums were a bit jarring when they came in - perhaps build them up a bit rather than coming in all at once. The ending sounded a bit odd to me (perhaps that's the "chaos" part of the song") - I would have been tempted to stop after 4min 30s.

I can hear the Vai influence, me like :). It's probably my crappy earbuds, I'm at work, but does the guitar seem a bit over compressed or rockman sounding? I aggree with Mark, the bass needs to be a bit louder and maybe the kick. Other than that, a stellar job. Well done! I'd add it to my library.

    Wicked man, just wicked!

I would say it has some Maiden in it except I couldn't hear the bass. Not that you would want to over do it with some Steve Harris bass but it should come in heavier.

Actually, I'm missing the crunch of the rhythm section altogether. Maybe it's just me, but I want the rhythm guitars and the bass and the kick to really pound and crunch.

As for the ending, I would think of some device or mixing technique that leaves the listener hanging on a ledge versus just stopping abruptly.

    Again, wicked cool.

Thanks for all the great imput and feedback on this song. Yes the bass does need to come out a bit more and I have done this on the master mix for the CD (thanks for the heads-up on that ). The ending is supposed to be abrupt as if a force is shutting off the life of a world like the flip of a light switch! Thanks again!

Nice, Rob. It's probably longer than it needs to be, though. In the middle there (around 4:00) I caught myself going, "Well, yeah, here we go into this section again. . . " But, then the bit you get into (by 5:00) is new. . .

I'll echo Tony's comments on the mix. The guitars (lead, in particular) are affected and processed, but the drums and bass sound like they didn't get any attention. You're already on-board with the bass being too soft; but I'll add that the drums sound very out-of-the-box drum machine-y. You could put some more time in on them to get them into the same league as the guitar. It would make the mix that much better, IMHO.
