Thanks - I really hope this works for me. If it fixes the problem universally - you shall be dubbed 'the man' and beautiful women will proposition you daily.

It worked! My Cpu Meter is no longer going crazy, up and down like a see-saw. I have an AMD Dual Core 4400+, and before this driver & the hotfix, I was seeing periodic Maxing out and warnings on with the cpu meter in Sonar + far too many dropouts and glitches - especially when zooming in or opening new pages. Now the cpu meter is stable, and the machine feels a lot more like a dual cpu machine should. I can actually edit whilst its running! Many Many Thanks.

Didn't work for me. When I enabled multiprocessor support after application of the hotfix and this driver install - I still get a lockup after a few minutes. Maybe it is the NForce4 chipset that is causing my woes? Damn - I wish i could figure this out.

Ok...you friggin ROCK....you are an instant best friend and a life saver. My Dual Core X2 4400+ system is now stable in Multiproc mode. I am a happy camper. I have been recording and changing things around for the last hour or so...she is still flying smoooooth. It's like someone took the spike out of my head. Ahhhh...now that is better. I am suprised that more people have not seen this yet. I have heard of at least a few other people having this CPU spike problem with Dual core. ORIGINAL: Duojet this seems to be working for me. it may work for you if you have an athlon x2. install the driver on this page: http://www.amd.com/us-en/Processors/ProductInformation/0,,30_118_1260_1202%5E1073%5E871%5E13118,00.html direct link to driver: http://www.amd.com/us-en/assets/content_type/utilities/amdcpu.exe this app alllows control over the power scheme for Cool n Quiet, which controls the CPU speed http://www.amd.com/us-en/assets/content_type/utilities/power.exe i also got the hotfix from microsoft as discussed here ( it was easy, took about 10min, no cost, minimal info requested) Let me know if these work for anyone else, my Athlon x2 3800 seems to be working the way it should under Sonar 5. there is still some of the wild fluctuation but i think thats a different problem.

All I can say...is look again. There are numerous files on that page. The second link in the topic takes you directly to the driver download. ORIGINAL: Notecrusher The only driver I see on that page is for Linux.

The 2nd link on the page is the Linux driver I mentioned. The newest driver I see for WinXP 32 is from May.

That would be the one. One would think it would have been boxed with the processor. But that driver worked for me. ORIGINAL: Notecrusher The 2nd link on the page is the Linux driver I mentioned. The newest driver I see for WinXP 32 is from May.

no problem. by the way are you saying youre not getting any cpu util fluctuation at all? mine still jumps around some, but it does that even with multi processing disabled. i thought it was just a sonar 5 thing.

I had installed the MS Fix...and I saw no difference. Maybe it made a difference...but I was still having my problem....and I was still upset. But then I happily read this thread yesterday, went home and applied that dirver and everything seemed to be quite stable after that. Last night I did some recording, adding and subtracting of soft synths...life was grand. SO I attribute the fix on my system to the AMD X2 driver. I get the average flaoting +/- 3% or so. And when the playback is about to hit a real time soft synth in playback, I will see a slight extra load. But that is normal I believe. Whereas before, I was getting massive jumps that were actually DOUBLE the average CPU usage and all the way up to a 'Warning' indicator with some occastional stoppages of the audio engine alltogether.
