Dan - you should post this as a NEW TOPIC. You've posted a reply to a FAQ Sticky and most users are not going to look in here to answer your questions.

Can anyone tell me where to find my SN that should have been with my CDs that I just received in the mail today? I tried the "number" on the shrink wrapper, but it doesn't work. Not surprisingly, my original CW HS 2002 SN will not work either. Tech Support is gone home by the time I got home to open my mail...and it's Friday. RATS!

Computer illerate here....read the entire manual that came with the software and I can't get the keyboard to work with the program. I went to the website but don't understand any of the terms that are being used to know which question applys to me. I want to play on the keyboard and have the program write all the notes for me automatically. I was told the software could do that. The reason i purchased the software. Could someone in laymans terms tell me what i am doing wrong please. Thanks Tammie

Just FYI...Unless they have changed something...you still have to phone in to get your S/N. (But, I didn't have to pay the shipping on the old stone tablets that they used to ship the S/N to me. Just kidding, I guess their not "that" behind the times.) And to be fair, SONAR is still the best MIDI editor IMHO.

Hey Dave! Thist does look good - and I can read it! Don't know if my computer was just formatting funky yesterday or what but this is good. I will be digging in soon - hopefully this evening. Thanks for all the hard work. JB

Wow,I just bought the home studio xl (it's gotta arrive yet) but i've been all over looking at all the video's and especially some of the plug-in technology, was pretty impressed by v-vocal,and guess what,I could'nt find any resources to see exactly what is included where, then I came across Daves site via this thread, wow so here's a quick summary... 1.Sonar 6 Home Studio XL seems an awesomely cheap piece of kit for what hopefully amounts to a virtual "steal" seeing it has more great tools shipped with it than Producer edition, which I think for the price should automatically include the Dimension LE + GPO,Booster 11 etc. 2.My vocalists will need to get it right first time Thanks Dave for taking the time

Nope. Even though USB 2.0 claims to be faster, it has a higher overhead and tests have shown that Firewire has a higher throughput.

dave is right, usb control is thru the cpu, firewire control is on the chipset, so it's faster, not to mention firewire 800....

I just updated my Cakewalk FAQ to include the product comparison for Sonar Studio and Producer 7. I left room for the Home Studio 7 upgrades when they come out.

Firewire is faster due to the error check/correction happens in a much more reliable fashion than usb 2.0. I'd have to look up the specs from my references to provide exact explanations. But I know that this is the case.

I have Cakewalk Home Studio 2004 XL and want to know if its possible to upgrade to Sonar 6 XL or do I have to buy it new ? The Cakewalk upgrade page is confusing because there is a Sonar Home Studio and I don't know if the upgrades only apply to earlier versions of Sonar or if it also works with Home Studio 2004 XL. Thanks, Sam

Just starting out! My wife bought me S6XL for Christmas. I was using a BR-8 for recording, so PC recording is new to me. What kind of USB interface do you recommend for using no more than 2-4 inputs? I noticed on the box that the MP3 Encoder was only good for 30 days. What is it's purpose?

Hey I apoligigize if I'm posting in the wrong thread. We are using an M-audio fast track ultra (it has four channels out) and we want to run four channels, channel 1 vocals, channel 2 drum mix, channel 3 rhy and lead guitar. channel 4 bass. We are using sonar XL 7 to do this but I cant get the channels worked out in my recording software, it shows every track getting the exact same input. How can I fix this? I was using an m-audio pre usb, which just has a left and a right. It worked ok but with the four different tracks We would have more control over the mix.

Man- I would LOVE to search through this FAQ! However, when I click on it, it says it's "locked". Am I doing something wrong- or is something wrong?
Sonar/Cakewalk Home Studio 7XL-Gateway 4300-03 with Vista Home Premium (64 bit), an AMD Phenom X4 Quad-Core Processor 9750 at 2.4 GHz, 8GB DDR2 RAM, and 2, (two) 1.0TB 7,200RPM Serial ATA Hard Drives. (I was told I needed 2, one for the program and one for the music. Interface- Presonus Firebox.

Slugbaby Daveny5 has created his own link for Frequently Asked Questions! [thanks dave!] If you're new to this forum, please check these for answers: http://mysite.verizon.net/vze3bn4h/id6.html If people bump this, it may actually get noticed and used. Or am I just being optimistic? Hi, Kind of new here (Home studio 7 XL) and I tried to open your link but got this message, "Locked The requested resource is currently locked. The lock must be released or proper identification given before the method can be applied. " What do I need to do? Thanks much, LL Sorry I didn't read the message before mine!

FAQ Link appears dead. I can't find the answers to my questions anywhere. I have Sonar Home Studio XL 7 and M-Audio Fast Track Pro. I am using Shure Mics and also M-Audio Oxygen 49 for imputs. Problem is, I am not getting any sound AT ALL. I get sound when opening Abelton 5, which came with the M-Audio equipment, so I know the equipment functions correctly. I want to start using Cakewalk, but am getting extremely frustrated. Other important facts: Using Toshiba Satellite A505 Windows Vista SP2 64-bit 4.00 GB RAM 2.10 GHz Intel processor Standard Issue Soundcard.
