Software Drummachines recomendation

At the moment I use Waldorf Attack and Battery 2.1 Now the thing with Battery is that is sometimes takes me to long going through my libaries founding thing, now Attack is a different thing. I really like this drummachines of it sounds and fast editing possibilities. Unfortenetly Attack dont' get updates anymmore and it is time for me after using it so much, for something new/something fresh. Can anyone recomend me a new fresh drumsynth.

Not sure it's what you'd strictly call a drum "machine", it's much more than that, but Stylus RMX is pretty unique and special.
Has to be one of the best sounding and designed VSTi's around.

It's mostly known for it's loop based grooves but don't forget it's got a huge library of 'hits' and all the grooves can be edited in so many ways, it's definitely not just a loop player.

Fruity Loops. The best IMHO, and lifetime free upgrades. Don't need to spend the $150 or whatever it is on the "Producer" version unless you need a lot of extra mixing capabilities, etc. The pattern-based sequencer aspect of the program alone is amazing; you can change time sigs on a per-pattern basis and arrange them any way you want. Excellent automation, works perfectly as a DXi in Sonar (or VST) and you can use any samples you want from your collection. It has been a great way for me to use all the nice one-hits from my loops CDs. It has an MPC-like plugin that is great for slicing up beats and such. Very flexible FX routing and a lot of nice included sounds/fx. Even has a drum synth for building your own sounds. Check it out.

If your like to consider a hardware solution I really like my Boss DR-880. It's very responsive when auditioning kits and beats (it comes with plenty of both) and has a built in sequencer. You also don't need to turn your computer on to goof off with the thing. It also has an amp modeling processor so you can also plug a bass or guitar into it. I really like mine but I use it mainly for drums, not amp modeling. It's a bit expensive as well.

If you want a drum machine to only provide samples, try DFH or BFD. Look thru the forum for more on these.

If you want a rythm box that plays like a real drummer, take a look at jamstix. It has a filter in it that stops it from playing a rythm that is impossible(ie hitting 3 drums at one time when you only have 2 arms), and it will improvise with automatic fills like a real drummer. I has two basic modes. One will play along with you, and the other is for arranged songs. Also, the guy who sells it is very active with the development and support. Highly recomended. It is worth downloading the demo and spending a couple hours to figure it out.

If you want more modern(ie trance, etc) take a look at fruity loops.

I'd check out GURU as well, it's got a nice mix of trigger pad drum player stuff AND pattern sequencing.

In the bang-for-the-buck department, Nusofting's DK+ Virtual Drums is a 64-bit internal processing gem, available for only $38.

Yeah.. I use Fl Studio as my main songwriting tool.
But I thought scha038 was specifically asking about
    a "new fresh drum synth".

IMHO that would be the µTonic.

However I second the vote on Fl Studio.

It's incredible and much maligned by people
who don't understand how to use it..........

i like µTonic the best. As mentioned before i use battery 2.1 for my samples but i mostly grab waldorf's attack because i like it sounds and i like the synth part, tweaking and i have the sound i want instead of going through lots of samples/kits. one thing now that i am on attack, does anyone that uses this too know why!! when routing a sound to outputs other then the main output for examples 1+3 the sound always have a kind of flange trigger in it?

Too bad, Waldorf Attack was a wonderful synth... Top-notch stuff.

These days I rarely use dedicated drumsynths/samplers, but there are 2 of them I like to keep handy...

Though not a synth, Ultimate Sound Bank's Plugsound Vol. 3 is on the top of my list.

And as a drumsynth, I suggest you take a look at E-Phonic's Drumatic and/or Drumatic VE. (Free/Donationware)

have to agree w/ fl, BUT Vsampler has a nice 1-bar that u can assign keys to trigger...u can also bounce to an acid-type file once the sequence is completed. dr-008 is nice because u can do pretty much the same, and with the assignable outs, u can effect solo sounds on 1 grid....I think that FL is better because it just is...well worth checking out...I just use it for the drum sequencing but Music lab pro drummer (retail upgrade) is a winner too because u can integrate it with the drum map manager, and u can use your keyboard and softsynths in unison....

I've only tried Guru and FruityLoops (demos), and I have to say that I'm in love with Guru.

This will end up being a commercial for yet another piece of software that I can't afford.

    Guru pros:
    * The interface is fantasticly intuitive. I can't over-emphasize this.
    * Mixing and matching kits with pattern presets is great
    * MIDI interface is very straightforward and lends itself to easy controlling via Sonar.
    * Multiple engines with separate kits and effects makes creating complex loops easy
    * Effects architecture is very flexible.
    * The builtin sounds (even in the demo) are great.
    * Guru is not a CPU hog, while fruity loops brings my machine to a crawl.

    Guru cons:
    * Too expensive $250. Twice as expensive as FruityLoops, with no free upgrades.
    * Not as many features as fruity loops. It does one thing (software drum machine),
    but does it perfectly.

Both Guru and FruityLoops are available as full featured demos (neither demo allow saving).

    Good Luck,
    Jeremy
