Dimension Pro discounts only for Project 5 V2 users?

I recently passed up on the Project V2 discounts for Sonar 5 owners. I did this because I honestly don't have the time or desire to learn a whole new workflow methodology right on the heels of the Sonar 5 release. I wrongly assumed that, once released, the Dimension Pro discounts would not be exclusve to Project 5 V2. I never imagined that Cakewalk wouldn't be interested in expanding the user base for Dimension Pro beyond Project 5 users. Although I do appreciate the previous offers, I now feel that it is unfair for Cakewalk to have assumed that Sonar 5 users would not be interested in receiving a discount on what is now Cakewalk's flagship synth without being forced to buy a separate sequencer package. This is especially disappointing when you consider that the current retail price for Dimension Pro is higher than it would have been to take advantage of the offer even if you never needed or used Project 5, yet it was never mentioned that Dimension Pro discounts would be exclusive to Project 5 V2 owners.

I am very dissapointed too. I own S5 and no discount for me. And full version of Dimension Pro is more expensive than my upgrade to S5.

Perhaps the logic is that this synth is a marketing tool for P5. If it's reputation is good enough then it will basically mean people will buy P5 to get Dimension. Having two cakewalk hosts will make it less likely people may also buy Live or one of the other specialised hosts.

Good comments. I also passed on the P52 offer--maily because I might get it for Christmas if they put it back on sale at a more reasonable time of year (hint, hint).

I'd like to see some lovin' for us z3ta+/pentagonI/squareI package takers. Rene, any words?

I know, it's a great big shot in the dark :D

    Cheers,

There was a recent email from Cakewalk where they extended the P5 discount offer as an incentive for users to get Dimension Pro for a lower price...this was all made clear in that email, but I know that a lot of people don't seem to receive the promotional email, so I guess this could have been missed...

On the main point at hand: why shouldn't P5 owners get a discount for the synth? We have already paid for Dimension when we bought P5 and all the Pro upgrade is offering us (for the most part) is new content...so why should Sonar users get the same discount for Dimension when they haven't paid for the synth? I think P5 owners would, rightly, be angry if Sonar users were offered Dimension at the same price we will pay for it, as you would essentially be getting the Dimension synth for free and just paying for the content.

I agree with what you said, xylyx.

Regarding the new extended promotional offer for P5, I believe I saw a sticky attached to the top of the forum last week which explained that only P5 owners would get an upgrade to Dimension Pro besides receiving the email notification which explained this as well. As the extended offer finished, it looks like the sticky was removed (unless I am so delusional that the sticky was just in my imagination). For those who did not receive/missed the email, they had access to the notification on this forum.

P5V1.5 was an impulse buy for me when Cake was giving away the farm back with the release of SONAR 4. I upgraded to 2.0 mostly because I like René's (rgc:audio) work and at the time it was the only way to get the new product. I guess impulse buy cutoff amounts vary per person.

It's a new product and Cake has a history of discounts for registered users of many products although I don't recall if there was one for the z3ta+. It might not hurt to wait and see.

I think if you wait a minute, Cakewalk will have another, "Too Good To Pass" offer for S5Producer users. I've been frustrated before only to get the deal a couple weeks later! Wildman

P5v2 already has half the content of Dimension Pro. Sonar 5 doesn't. Thus it makes sense that P5v2 users get the biggest discount.

However, I also think there should be some discount to Sonar users and registered Cakewalk users. Maybe there will at some point.

I'm well aware that P5v2 ships with the original Dimension and I don't think that I ever implied that P5v2 users shouldn't receive the largest discount. I just don't think that Sonar 5 users should have been 'required' to buy another sequencer package just to get Cakewalk's newest flahship synth at a reduced price immediately upon its release .

As has been mentioned by a couple of people, I'm sure that Cakewalk may add additional offers later on targeted towards other Cakewalk customers. Nevertheless, as I recall D-Pro was never marketed as being an exclusive upgrade for P5v2, but as a multi-platform, standalone synth. I simply can't understand why Cakewalk would assume that owners of its flagship sequencer package as well as other Cakewalk products would not be anticipating this release as closely as Project5 V2 owners. Maybe its just me but this just wreaks of typical marketing BS. It seems to me that they were simply trying to prop up sales of one product by using another and are now penalizing the folks that didn't buy-in.

I was anxiously awaiting Dimension Pro mainly because I feel that the bundled synths in Sonar 5 are good but far from ground-breaking. I also think that Sonar's biggest gap in the bundled synth department is its support for 'realistic' instrument sounds which D-Pro covers nicely. If I would have known that the ony way to get D-Pro quickly at a reasonable price was via the P5v2 upgrade offers, I may have reconsidered passing up the offer, even though I have no use for P5v2 right now.
