100% of the proceeds go towards paying myself back, and then to fund the enless gear lust. It's a good cause. I'm in. Congrats, Dana. This was hard-fought.

Wow, this is again a great forum, really appreciate the feedback. Here is what I used on this: I have to say most of it was done in Sonar, since I have been working on this CD for the better part of two years. The one thing certainly that started in P5 was Closer than today, the little riff at the beginning that was a combo of a Reaktor synth and Triangle II. I did the mastering with the Ozone Isotope - over and over and over. Took me forever! So - most of what is on there is: XL7, DX200, ER1, EA1, Kontakt, plus a bunch of Reaktor synths, and I think I used Battery on every single song. I recorded it thru my 26/96 card, and straight thru my Spirit Rac Pac, plus an ART TPSII, SM57/58, Studio Projects C1, Yamama FX500 (12-bit glory!),Vox Cambridge amp plus of course my trumpet, my beloved 50's Martin tenor sax, cheap bundy flute and my pride and joy my '58 Jazzmaster. note to ecamburn: its not really by design that I put in all those elements, its just that I like a lot of things and in my head, I don't hear them as being so seperate, they all sorta just lounge around in there together. I mean, I really don't know how to plan anything -just ask my wife! Sorry to be so long winded but again my sincere thanks for taking the time to check it outl

Dana: I feel I should give you some preliminary feedback on your CD. This won't take the place of the novella that I promised to give you. The CD is still in the second stage of review: car rotation. It's past the "jump out at me" background "muzak" stage, but I haven't gotten into heavy analysis on the big system yet. Let me start by saying that you're a very talented multi-instrumentalist. I wish that I had your range of versatility with all those instruments. The reeds, brass, plectrum stuff, keyboards: it's really a complete package. You play the bass like a bass player; rather than a guitarist that picks up a bass. And the drum programming? It sounds like ... well, a guitarist. [j/k]. We'll get into the fine points later. The track sequencing, mixing and mastering, the writing: it all shows how much you've put into this thing; heart & soul. Without seeming to take away from the other tracks, I'd like to give special mention to the instrumentals. The first (do I detect some Gentle Giant around the CD?) is a track that would easily be at home in anyone's collection here, from what I've seen. There appears to be some prog influences throughout the CD, but not in the form of copped licks. More like an extension of what you've heard; being assimilated and taken to the next (personal) level. Do you happen to have the first Patrick Moraz post-Yes album, or is it Gabriel's solo work that you're channeling on this one? And the closer? Miles meets Soft Machine, or maybe the post-Mahavishnu Orchestra individual solo efforts. Perhaps some Jaco, instead? This one's in heavy rotation. Don't tell me where all the Reaktor modules are; I might have to "reakt" to that. Great effort. If you're on the fence, just buy it.

Not quite my cup of tea, but that's just one man's opinion. My only suggestion for the future would be to subdue the vocal levels a bit. A solid effort, congrats on actually finishing what you start! (A lot of us don't, I know.)

Tom: First of all, a disclaimer: I did not bribe Tom to write all these great comments. Tom, I am pretty blown away by your positive review, although now that I have the novella, I will want to read the book - offline of course! It is always so interesting to me to hear what influences other people hear in my music - I'm sure you know what I am talking about. Well, lets see...I did have Close to the Edge, back when it came out and thought it was brilliant. I mean, those cats could flat play! I was also heavily into the Mahavishnu orchestra, saw them a couple of times and it made me want to throw away my guitar, ya know? But here I diverge: never bought any other Yes albums, never owned a Soft Machine,Gentle Giant or a Peter Gabriel album for that matter, the only thing I ever liked of his was Shock the Monkey till I saw the video too many times, but of course that was much much later. So unless you want to inlcude Weather Report or Miles' ****es Brew (although I must confess I have much more affection for his 50's stuff) as prog, nah I never got into that at all. I was on a big jazz kick for years (doesn't everyone wish they were Django? I do!) and pretty much ignored rock althogether from 1974 until the Ramones came out, much more my speed. As for that last number, guess what? no Reaktor on there, the sounds are from my now long departed Darkstar, triangle II, and a horribly mutiliated 160 bpm drum loop sped way, way down......and then down even farther there at one point. The delay on the trumpet is the bionic delay from the dub scrolls, best delay ever and free too. So thanks much again, and if the production and mixing makes it past you, then all the endless work I did wasn't in vain, since this whole mixing/mastering thing was quite new to me. d
