A good way to A/B tracks...
This may have already been covered/discovered, but I stumbled across it last night. It has always been a pain A/B comparing tracks: hit the solo button for the A track, then quickly toggle off the A track solo button and hit the B solo button. There's that lag thats not just annoying, but it gets in the way of a good instantanious comparison. So here's what to do. Hit the solo button for the A track, but leave the one for the B track off. Then right click one of the solo buttons, select Group/New and assign a group to it, coose a color and all that. Then right click the solo button of the other track and add it to the same group. Now all you have to do is click either solo button to make the solo track change between them instantly. Forgive me if this has been covered, but it bears repeating anyway.

Great tip! Another feature that I wasn't aware of (grouping the solo buttons).

That is all covered in the manual, btw. It's actually one of the first things I read. It pays to read that manual ocassionally

Thanks. Great tip. I hazzled a lot with the strange behavior of the solo buttons in Sonar. Now listen Cakewalk and make adjustments for future like everything else in Windows works: 1. Ctrl click adds an extra item to existing selected 2. Just click deselects everthing else but what is clicked last.

Exclusive Solo is even easier if you simply comparing one track to another.

Indeed, which I think is what was meant in the original post, all those years ago, when Exclusive Solo didn't exist. Ahhh... How things change (improve) over time

I am still watching video tutorials. When I finish, I hope to be able to grasp what I will be reading in the manual. At the moment, it is still mostly Greek....

Q. What's a "power user"? A. Someone who reads the manual. I think life changed for the better when manuals became electronic, so that you could search for terms. But then the issue became knowing the terms you needed to search on

I must be a huge power user then! I stopped reading literature some years back and started reading manuals exclusively. I like both hard copy and electronic manuals.

Ditto John. I actually took time out last year to read Stephen Donaldson's "Last Chronicles" and my wife asked me how long it was since I last read a novel. I had to think, and it was about 10 years ago. On one level, that's disgraceful. I was an avid reader when I was younger (pre-studio) Thanks Cake

I've used this technique alot. I saw a post for same thing awhile back and tried it out. Great tip. It was worth saying. Sometimes these little things are what make work flow so much better.

Very helpful. By the way, the big weakness with the Help and the Manual is that they are too cryptic. Example: "Click on the Track Manager icon." OK, where is it and what does it look like? <<Just an example: you don't have to answer.

I don't know about "great" novels, but I kept busy with SciFi. Harlan Ellison was my fave, but Lord of the Rings, The Asimov Foundation Trilogy. I could not get into the whole Grok thing tho....Now I read Kindle, but mostly theological stuff. I do have most of the 60s rock bios on there as well. Sorry, back to your regular programming.
