the dithering in Waves L2

Waves L2's precision is 48bit , it has Dither function .

Waves manual says : " There is actually no reason to turn dither Off in normal use. " and " Even if you are using an external dithering system to achieve your final desired wordlength, you should use the L2's IDR to dither to a 24bit output. "

I doubt that if I enable Sonar's 64bit double precision floating point ( and Waves L2 is not the last plugin ) , shoud I enable the Dither in Waves L2 plugin ?

If I disable 64bit ( using 32bit ) , shoud I enable the Dither in Waves L2 plugin ?

    disable the L2 dither and just use sonars dither.

    sonar pro uses POW-r 3 which is very very good, better than IDR which is what waves use.

    Kind regards

    I am with Dave . I also turn off the Dither when using the L1 or L2. POW-r is a great dithering program to use.

    <dangling a monkey wrench>

    I don't know guys...IDR is supposed to be a really fantastic dither algorhythm. Some people may argue that IDR is actually better than Pow-R. I dont' know...

    Thanks,

    Pow-R 2 maybe - but i really doubt 3.

    There is a website which did a shootout - you could probably find it on google.

    Never A/B'd the two, Dan.

    I do not use it (IDR) because I leave everything in 24-bit and let CD Architect dither it down when it burns the files to disk. Or is that...disc?

    Chaz, when CD Architect dithers the file from 24-bit to 16-bit, what dither algorhythm does it use? Does Sony have thier own dither?

    Thanks,

    I think it is Franhaufer (sp?), but am not 100% sure. I will check it out and let you know what I find out, Dan.
