It works, but if you open up on too many tracks simultaneously, it will choke. I've heard this from everyone w/o exception, so far. It has nothing to do with how fast or large your your machine is, etc., it's a problem with UAD chewing up lots of cpu. Weird, how it's supposedly designed to actually deal with this specific problem by running natively off of the pci card processor, but it chews up as much cpu as, for instance, waves reverbs and gates, or antares plugs. I find the sonitus and sonar plugs to be far more reliable (they just don't choke, until you get up to, like, 40 or 50 tracks running 2 or 3 plugs per track, and then you just freeze and you're set) if you want lots and lots of plugs running simultaneously on lots and lots of tracks.

didn't work well enough here - I put up with the error messages and dropouts for about year before selling mine.

It is better now than it was pre sonar5 and uad3.9 though - but still not perfect.

    Kind regards

Dave Rich and others thanks for the knowledge!

I see daverich sold his on ebay i guess it was a waste of time and money to fight it.

I love the way they sound but theres only so much a person can take.

I barely have any hair left.

    THANKS AGAIN!!!

My 2 UAD cards have worked flawlessly. There has been some talk about UAD 1 cards not playing well with particular motherboard chipsets...perhaps that's the real root of the problem...check the UAD-1 Forum for more info:

    Well Dave,

I had one card first for about a year with no problems, and then got a second card.

But if yooou go to the forum I linked to above there are full scale discussions aboout problems (and successes) with UAD-1 and certain chipsets.
UAD-1 representatives monitor the board and provide useful information. Looking there is far better than making baseless guesses, no?

    just trying to be helpful,

I had one card for about 16 months without any problems. It was when I installed my second card that I started to have problems, with audible gaps, in my renders, when mixing down. Come to find out the 2nd card was sharing an IRQ, with a USB Host Controller , once I got that sorted (I simply assigned the 2nd UAD-1 to the same IRQ, as the 1st), all was well again. Other than the long-time SONAR specific problem (project looping/loss of PDC), my UAD-1's have performed flawlessly.

I do believe the root, of the problem, and the weak link, for the original poster, is the particular Dell proprietary stock motherboard that is being used. Have you tried putting the UAD-1 card, in different PCI slots? Preferably one that is not shared. Do you have access to a different computer to try the UAD-1 card in?

You obviously don't know me so I'll let this one go - I worked very hard with Universal audio to fix these problems - i was in contact with many users, some who had problems and some who didnt. A few of these did have problems which were fixed by adding another card - something I wasn't prepared to do.

The best the situation ever got was with UAD v3.9 and sonar5. Since 4.0 the problems reared up worse again so I got fed up and sold the card - after over a year of struggling with it.

There are no baseless guesses here my friend ;)

    Kind regards

    Dave Rich.

I used the UAD with Sonar 4.0 to mix down my latest CD with a Dell XPS and an Emu 1820m. I followed some of the recomendations from folks on this board to optimize my IRQ settings and it worked flawlessly.

Your own issues are certainly not baseless, and I guess I should apologize for trying to point you to a place I thought might help.

I do not know you, and tried to help out anyway. Enjoy the rest of your quest for a solution.

So it all comes down to the MSI K8N Neo Plat board Dave and I have in common? Or Fireface 800 in combo with that or Sonar? No problem with SX3.
