i can record using my computers sound recorder
when i arm a track and press record the line thing scrolls across the screen like its doing something and the time on the track is changing but noting gets recorded
when i hit record again to stop my session the track is empty
if i press play its just like there was never a recording
it dosnt play crackiling or anyhting for the time i recorded

What do you want us to do, I mean you are sure that the audio setting are correct?

The only thing is if they are correct then it would be working.

Go to options/audio and tell us what it has in the playback and record boxes, also check under drivers and see what it there.

    Playback:Soundmax digital audio 1/2

    Record:Soundmax digital audio

    for drivers
    Input:Soundmax digital audio
    Outputs:Soundmax digital audio 1/2

These are correct for basic work

Go to the speaker icon in the system tray (lower right hand corner of the screen) Double click and bring up the windows mixer view, Check to see if record and playback are checked or enabed, check to see if the volume is turned up

What are you trying to record, mike or instrument? Midi or audio? Where is it plugged into?

If the green light is moving, it must have an input on that track, check to make sure.

    What kind of mike?

    And even more basic ...

Are you sure that you armed an AUDIO track and NOT a MIDI track?

Let's be clear one one critical issue, when you say "hit record" do you mean the red dot? cause one cause of not input is hitting the play arrow instead of the red record dot, also if you hit the red dot, and then hit it again to stop it will not stop, only stop recording, but the transport continues to move, where if you hit the play arrow, and then again to stop it actually stops.
