OT: Instrument/mike tube preamp with optical compressor

OTAny suggestions? I am looking for a tube preamp to run my guitar into before it hits the Tonelab.

I have been experimenting all day with the T-Lab and by putting a cheapo Art Tube MP in front of the Tonelab, I am gettiung much silkier distortions compared to pluging the guitar straight into the Tonelab.

So I am thinking a better tube pre with a compressor or limiter in front, might just get me what I want from the Tonelab.
