....I'll continue, I'm new to this and need a few handy hints. I am planning on buying either home stuido or guitar pro for my computer and I have no idea what gear i will need to buy/have to set up my own little home computer studio. I will mostly be using guitars and would like to know the best way to set up my computer to record the best sound, anything from the sound card to the type of leads i use. Any information will be highly appreciated and remembered. Thanks heaps!

Hi....I use Guitar Tracks Pro 3. It's very easy to learn and has nice interfaces. For interface into the computer, check out the new Line 6 Tone Ports - UX1 and UX2. I picked up the UX1 and it suites me just fine. It essentially is a sound card but comes in a box that has input for guitar/bass and vocals and outputs. It comes with software that has all sorts of amp models for guitar/bass, preamps for vocals and lots of effects. It also is very reasonably price compared to some other interfaces on the market. The UX1 or UX2 hooks up to your computer via USB cable.

Thanks heaps for that GreenStang! I shall look into it, do you know how much i would be looking at to purchase one? Whats the difference between UX1 and UX2? Does it also replace your old soundcard or only while its plugged in via USB? Thanks!

I got the UX1...it's only $129. The UX2 is $199 I think. All the difference is is more inputs and outputs and that it can handle midi/footcontrolers. It all depends on what you would want to do. The software is the same. Having the 1 1/4" instrument and the 1 XLR for vocals is fine for me and I don't need midi or have a desire to control the wah or volumn pedal in Gear Box software that it comes with. If I want to use a wah, I'll use my pedal before going into the Tone Port.

You will still have your old sound card for your computer operations but the Tone Port is what you will use to get input into the computer as well as monitor to what you are recording. I basically have been using headphone for now but will be purchasing some monitor speakers soon.

Sounds good to me. I'll just get the UX1 as I'll only be needing the same as you by the sounds of things. What type of pedals, amps and guitars do you use? What kind of music do you play mate?

I prefer Fender Strats (USA HSS and Mexi) and I have an Alvarez acoustic. As for pedals, I usually only use the Wah (Bad Horsie II) with the Gear Box from Tone Port to record. When playing I use the wah and have Digitech effects pedals (Delay, Chorus, Phaser) as well as Digitech DF-7 distortion, Ibanez Tube Screamer and Voodoo Lab Sparkle Drive for a variety of tones. To keep it simple I use a Peavey Class 30 Tube amp!

Music wize, I was a metal head back in the mid 80s to early 90s. I still love the stuff, but do listen to a bunch of new bands too. Favorite guitarist is Steve Vai for rock and Stevie Ray Vauhghan for blue, although I love so many players. So, I'll basically play anything. Lately I've been on kind of a funk kick trying to learn all sorts of rhythms.

    And u?
