SONAR 5 and Toshiba laptops

Hello,

I am planning to buy a laptop. I can have a good bargain on a Toshiba Satellite M60-163.
Does anyone here have experience with toshiba statellite laptops ? Are they usually quality laptops ? Any known issue when used a DAWs ?

For information, I will be using it with:

- MOTU 896HD.
- SONAR 5 PE.
- Finale 2006.
- Various softsynths (Atmosphere, BFD, GPO, JABB, Kontakt 2, Stylus RMX, Trilogy, ...).

I will have tow main usages:

- record my a-cappella band.
- compose and produce my own music using softsynths.

Thank you in advance for any feedback.

My kitchen computer that I'm using to write this post, is a Toshiba Satellite widescreen. It's too big to qualify as a laptop, and at 3.0 GHz it'll fry your lap if you try to use it that way.

I have not loaded SONAR on it, but I have done DV editing using a Magix video editing package. It seems to be powerful enough, and the firewire port works well for me. The internal hard drive is too slow for DV editing, it was useless. I think it's like 4300 RPM. I ended up buying an external 300 GB Maxtor 7200 RPM drive for my DV data, it's been smooth sailing ever since.

My built-in DVD-RW drive died right after it went out of warranty. Unfortunately, I hadn't done very little DVD writing the first year I owned it, or I would have noticed. I looked it up on the net and there were *many* other owners of Toshiba laptops complaining about the DVD writers were failing.

I haven't upgraded to Sonar 5 yet, but I've ran Sonar 2, 3, and 4 on a Toshiba laptop for the past 3 years. I've never had any problems that I can speak of. One of the best moves I made was to add an external 7200rpm hard drive. I seriously increased my track count in Sonar.

    Hope this helps!
