How can you listen while you record?

I'm just trying to do something very basic and can't seem to figure it out. I"m recording from my mic jack on the computer. Is it possiable to listen at the same time you record? well I figured out how to listen and record, but it is delayed about a half second. Is that normal?????

You must have enabled input monitoring, you need to disable that. As far as listening or monitoring the mix and the input tracks while recording, this takes a mixer or interface that has an headphone jack on it. I use a behringer 802 they are around $50 and will give you what you need http://www.musiciansfriend.com/srs7/g=rec/search/detail/base_pid/631238/ there are many other devices that will do this as well, just look around
