Found: 1 Ensoniq ESQ-1 with cartridge

Okay, had a clean up session in the Rock Room at school (yes, I am in fact Jack Black) and the students uncovered a dusty old Ensoniq ESQ-1.

Worth anything? Sound any good? Useful as a MIDI controller?

Of course, I can answer some of these myself (given time) but that layer of dust is rather intimidating…

This thing weighs a ton so I'm in two minds about nicking it for home use but if it's renowned for some special qualities as a MIDI controller, let the gurus speak…

Also, is it worth creating a Dimension program bank from this thing (as a tutorial type thang) or does it sound like a wet fart?

It's a GREAT hybrid synth! 8-bit waveforms with great analog filters. Get it! Get it! (normal prices are around $150-$200)

Yeah, it's quite bulky, but it's worth it. 3 oscillators, 3 LFO's and 4 envelopes per voice. This allows for very complex textures. It makes beautiful pads and good basses.

Here's a song I made with my ESQ-1 - only 8 voices (you can hear note-stealing in some places), no fx but reverb at the main outputs. Nice stuff:

BTW.- The keyboard is good. No USB, though.
