track problems

Ive done search after search on this problem and ive seen that im not the only one who has this problem. Ok, i record on one track. Im adding a second guitar part to the next track. And for some reason the first track bleeds into the second track causing a the meter to clip. I cant find the record what you hear option. Ive searched all around cakewalk to figure out what was activated to cause this problem, and nothing. I had this problem before and i somehow fixed and now i cant remember how i did it, or were in the forums i found how to do it. THis is a brand new dell computer. The sound card is Soundmax intergrated digital audio. I know im like the 1,000 person to probbaly ask this, but i have seriusly tried everything. I know im missing something so please help me out. Im using home studio 2002

If you are having a bleed problem, one possibility is that you still have the first (or more than 1) track still armed for recording. Make sure the red "R" button is not pushed.

Do you have "Wave out mix" selected as the recording source in the Windows mixer?

Well, no matter what options you've selected, you can't send the recorded tracks back through along with the track you're recording. That means, if you're using a mixer, you can't be monitoring the playback and sending the new track through the mains because you're going to have both signals mixed together. If you have a Mackie mixer with a separate buss (like the ALT 3-4), you can direct the new track to the sound card and isolate it from the signal you're monitoring. Otherwise, you'll need to devise another solution, like plugging your instrument directly into the sound card rather than using the mixer output.

IM notusing a seperate mixing board. IM pluging my guitar into a effects proccessor then directly into my sound card. IM thinking that this has to be some sort of glitch. Like i said beofre this is the second time it has happened. I somehow fixed the problem. Then, I got some sort of virus on my comp. And i had to restore my computer to an earlier setting. So now its back to blending the tracks.

Sounds to me like a What U Hear or Input Monitoring setting is incorrect, not a glitch. Check the control panel for your audio equipment.
