help!!! constant dropouts

i never had this problem before and all of the sudden it drops out. I have a soundblaster card and over 1 gig of ram , i shouldnt be having this problem

    Turn the background stuff off first (firewalls, virus scanners, pop-up blockers - the crap that starts when you turn your system on). How many effects you got in use?
