Midi Ports

Hello,
I recently purchased and installed Music creator version 2 to my Dell computer using windows xp media. When I go to options, and click on midi devices a window opens up
that says input ports on the left and output ports on the right. I see a list of devices on the output side, but the input side is empty. Can someone tell me why and what do I have to do please? Thank you

MC is not seeing an input port, does the computer have one? If so is it enabled in the bios? what is listed int he output list? You might need to start by going with the MME drivers for audio.

Thank you for your immediate response. To be honest with you i'm kind of new with computers and mc. What is, and how can I find out if I do have an imput port ?
    And what is MME?

In the output list I see (Microsoft GS Wavetable SW Synth), and (Microsoft Midi Mapper).
The Imput as I said earlier is empty. :0) Thanks

Okay, the fact that you have microsoft synth Gs means that you are using the MME drivers.

The inputs are visable if there is an actual midi card or port on the comouter, midi jackes are in general a round jack with five pins in it, this is usually on the sound card, if the computer does not have a midi jack or port then it will not have an input driver.

Are you inputting midi thru a keyboard or thru adding notes or dashes in the staff or piano roll?

I acctually don't see anything like that on my computer. The sound card I have is an intergrated audio 7.1 which came with my Dell dimension E510. I have an inexpensive Casio portable piano keyboard. It says General Midi but does not have In and Output slots for the basic midi cables. It only has a USB slot for a USB cable. Can that work?

I know that when I connect the Keyboard to the computer using the USB cable I don't get any sound from it. When I connect it it make a ringing sound but nothing happens when I play the keyboard. I'm an amature at this. :0)

I bought a M-Audio Fast track interface to see if that would help me out.

Connect the Keyboard to the USB cable and then open up MC, it should list the option of the USB under Midi devices. If not then hopefully someone who uses a USB keyboard will come along and fill in the missing spaces.

What's up Robomusic. I tried plugging my casio keyboard directly to the mic slot and it's working. It's recording and playing back. The only problem i'm having now is that when I record everything I do is kind of echoing, but when I play it back it sounds fine. What can I do to stop the echoing? Thanks

Yep that is an option, just to record the audio output of the keyboard. I can't play that well.

Go to options / audio and find the input monitoring tab and unhighlight anything in the white box
