First of all, i would like to apologize because i know this problem has been answered before but i checked the threads and i just couldn't find it.

when i record using a guide track, the guide track records itself unto what i am currently recording. how do i solve this?

thanks in advance...

Turn off WHAT U HEAR in the soundblaster mixer.

That question only gets asked at least once a day.

I am not sure what you mean by guide track. But if you go to Control Panel --> Sounds --> Advanced you should see your Volume Control. Go to Options --> Properites and select Recording. Make sure you have Line in or Mic checked (which ever you are recording). I am willing to bet you have "What U Hear" checked and that will record everything you can hear over the soundcard which would include the "guide track"...

    hope that helps...

The issue in this thread has not been answered for me here or at any place I have looked. Please help if you can. I have been using Cakewalk Home Studio 2000 for years. Suddenly, without my changing anything that I know of, here's my problem:
1- I record a track. 2--I arm and try to record a second track while hearing the previously recorded track. 3--The previously recorded track records onto the new track at an extremely high volume. I don't want to record the previous track onto the one I'm trying to add; I just want to lay down another track to play with the previous one.
I've tried adjusting and/or muting every control panel/sound control. If I turn down/off any volume I either can't hear the playback or the mic input is turned down/off. By the way there is no "What you hear" option anyplace on my computer/software, etc. and I don't understand how one could turn such an option off without turning off any sound coming from the sound card--which would make it impossible to hear the recorded track to play along with.
I'm just going straight into the sound card via the mic in and hearing the playback over headphones plugged into the output on the sound card. I've recorded this way forever and not had this problem. No change in hardware or software. Sound card is Realtek HD Audio. Windows XP. This is baffling. Please help.

Thank you!!! I had to experiment with various mute buttons since my controls didn't have the exact features you showed, but your procedure did help get me to the right screens/options. I don't know how these options got changed since I didn't even know how to get to them. Go figure. Thanks again.
