excited but lost!

I've just completed my first song after many a long week slaving over a hot pc, and id love to post it someplace so i can get some constructive criticism. This may sound like a stupid question but how do i go about it? do i just sign up to a free personalised site like geocities or something, put it on there, then just post a link? sorry if it sounds really dumb, but im pretty clueless! any help greatly appreciated.

thanks

jim

There are several places you can put it. The ones most discussed here are motagator.com and soundclick.com, try searching those here for links, or google them. Greg

Another site you could try is myspace. It is free as well however you can only post four songs. And make sure you sign up for the "music myspace" account and not just the personal one. After you find a place to host your songs you can come back to this forum and go to "all forums" and then to the "songs forum" and post a link. That way other cakewalk users can check it out and give you some ideas.

A second vote for motagator.com, and sound click, also there is bandspace where if anyone downloads it you get paid for it.

The thing i like about Motagator, is that is is relitively small, but growing steadily. I also like the new features for paid subscription where you can sell your stuff as downloads or CD. I plan to offer some downloaded single soon, and later a CD or two.

Oh an ETLite, I gave you a listen, and like the content, it has a dark overtone to most of it, and also shows some growing skills, the mixing is good and the overall balance is very nice, one piece of constructive critisism would be to work a bit more with humanizing the midi a bit more it still has quite a midi feel to it. But having said that it is still coming along very nicely. What synths are you primarily working with on these projects?

Actually it is all done general midi. I have been meaning to do some synth work with it all but since my "DAW" is currently "DOA" I have just been working on my wifes pc and I don't have everything setup on it. So in the meantime i am just playing around a bit. I expect to have a new daw in six months to a year and then i plan on getting some serious work and learning done. There is a local college here that offers a intro to midi and an advanced midi course that i am thinking about taking. Depends on if i can get it for no credit. Thanks for the advice. I am not quite sure how i am going to humanize it more. Any tips?

I am thinking of taking some courses as well, I think it would be interesting to really learn midi for once.

One idea is to take the midi tracks and change the velocities of the individual notes and also to move some of them ever so slightly to get a more human feel, cause humans are not that precise, also just using Edirol and using the GS sets will help the sound a bit. the overall work is reall good, it make for a very strong base for the songs

I did have a song where a few things where off. I thought that it made it more human sounding but i got crushed in a midi forum about how my sequencing was off. They tore me apart so since then i have been trying to be really carefull on lining everything up....maybe too much though.

I am embarresed to say i still have problems getting the edirol to work right....and after i have read all your posts on it i should be able to figure it out but i just cant seem to get it to work on my wifes comp...i had it working fine on mine but of course my stupid comp has to break down on me.

I will try changing velocities on some notes...that is a really good idea....how much variance do you think are we talking 100's or 1000's?

Lets say that all you velocities are at 100, then try making some 85 and some 90 maybe one 80, do this randomly, and as far as moving notes, you just need to nudge them about a fraction of a line one way or the other to give is a not perfect feel, so subtle that it is hard to tell.

Any idea if there is a velocity randomizer mfx for mc2003?

I don't think there is, but try getting the SONAR demo. I believe that'll actually allow you to use those MFX in MC, unless the code's been changed with the 5.0 demo. That would include a velocity randomizer effect.

I am sorry to say that downloading the sonar 5 demo does not give me the ability to use the mfx's in mc2003....it was a good try on our part but oh well....Thanks anyway Joe!!!
