Help please !!

Hi I just got the cakewalk music creator today basically I want it to record and be able to transpose my music to charts so I can print them out its easier than writing charts for all my students but basically my question is how can I hook my keyboard to my computer? I have a edirol um-2 usb midi interface but it is not seeming to work I was wondering if there is any other way to hook up my board ?? any help? please?

    How do you have the MIDI cables connected?

    well I think that may be my problem also but radio shack is closed so I was checking here first I only have one midi cable and the edirol um-2 has a in 1 and out 1 and like I said I only have one midi cable but once I get another cable and I plug it in should everything just come right up?? if so where then do I go to be able to play my board and hear it out of my speakers and record? Sorry if this is all too much I am new with plugging my board into my computer if you have not noticed .... thanks
