Recording out of sync

I'm having a problem recording on Cakewalk Pro. When I record a track then record another, the second track plays about half a second later than the first track. All tracks are audio. I've tried running the profiler and changing latency and everything else suggested on other posts, and nothing seems to help. Any ideas?

How fast is your computer? How much memory does it have? How much disc space is there? Do the sampling rates of the sound card and MC match? Did you turn off all the other programs before recording? How many buffers are there in the queue? Greg

P3 1.2 with 256 ram. Funny thing is it used to work fine. I assume I did something to cause this but I don't know what.

Turn off input monitoring, and check the sound cards setup window, and make sure that it is not setup to record all that it hears.

Input monitoring is off and sound card settings are fine. I've noticed that the problem stays exactly the same no matter what the latency setting. Any other ideas?

What sound card? Is it a sound blaster? If so set the sampling rate of MC to 48,000 Htz, and it should help, Also are you using XP as the operating system? If so then 256 ram is not enough, XP need 256 to run itself, and especially on a P3 those are slow and struggle with XP. I had a P3 700 and 256 and it would not run MC

Sample rate set to 48000, no help. I'm running XP pro. Thing is that MC ran perfectly on this exact computer. Obiously I did something to cause this, but i have no idea what.

I have know of people who ran XP on PIII machines and it ran good, but that is an exception, I am not saying PIII is no good, but PIII with 256 is not enough to run XP and Cakewalk, the one i had studdered and popped and crackled, I added 256 more of ram and all smoothed out a ran perfect. I know this is not what folks want to hear, but If you know how XP works it takes over half of the ram available to operate, so very little is left for audio processing. My current system is a xp machine with 512 ram, and an AMD chip 2400+ xp and it runs very smooth, but still i have occasional issues that having 1 gig of ram would solve.
