music slow down

Encountered a problem with music slowing down. After creating a piece in staff view and sending it through edirol or dream station the music rumbles along nicely for about 90 seconds and then changes speed to a slower rate as if struggleing to keep up with the pace. Is this a buffer or memory problem. The cpu indicater on MC hovers around 15 percent and using very little disc space. The computer memory is at 53 percent utilised of 254 mb and is a intel celeron cpu 2.60ghz and 2.59ghz 245 mb ram. The sound card is M Audio 2496.

cheers

what drivers are you using (MME, WDM)? I've found sometimes MME will slow down like that.

The driver is 32 bit API. In audo options the always use MME interface even if WDM drivers are detected is checked, should this be unchecked?

wdm will give faster response, but you will lose the microsoft synth Gs. but since you are using Edirol then you do not need MssGs anyway. If you are using XP as the OS, then 265 Ram is not enough, especially on a celeron Chip, you need 512 minimum

I'd Seize the day but i can't quite reach it!

The OS is XP and I will upgrade the memory asap. Ok I understand the drivers function but not so sure where to look to see if WDM is functioning, within MC only the card drivers are listed. I can live without the GS.

    thanks

If you have a M-Audio, try disabling the "use MME even if WDM is available" checkbox, run wave profiler, restart cakewalk, and then try again.

Thanks for the help Joe, disabling the "use MME even if WDM is available" seems to have done the trick. MC may not be rocket science but it can get confussing for those of us less technically minded folks.
