Sorry Cakewalk.....I just had to post this, come on guys

NAMM06: Steinberg Releases VST 2.4 Standard
World’s leading audio interface standard gets host of new features 21-Jan-06

Steinberg have announced the release of the SDK for a new version of its Virtual Studio Technology interface standard.
The latest 2.4 version of the world’ s most popular plug-in standard offers new features for developers of audio applications and plug-ins, including full support for 64-bit audio, double precision floating point capability and complete compatibility with the newest Intel-based Apple Macintosh computers.

Markus Stehlik, Steinberg’s Director of Engineering had this to say about the new release“VST 2.4 offers a set of new features that place it firmly at the cutting edge of audio technology. In updating our VST standard with the new features, we are ensuring its compatibility with the technologies of today and tomorrow, and we will continue to provide VST with new specifications as new technologies develop in the future.”

VST 2.4 allows developers of third party plug-ins and VST instruments to build products that run natively on 64-bit platforms. Double precision (64-bit) floating point audio samples are also supported to allow even higher resolution audio processing with VST. The included Mini Host example application allows for testing of 64-bit plug-ins in a suitable environment, while the new VST Parameters Structure allows plug-in programmers to make the available parameters even easier for the end customer to find and utilize.
The VST SDK has also been given a general overhaul for the 2.4 version, making it clearer and simpler to use.

The Developer SDK for VST 2.4 is available for download at : http://www.steinberg.de/Steinberg/Company/NewsItem_19012006_vst24_eu.html

Cakewalk will be able to barely deal with that 5 or 6 years from now.

Couldn't help but notice the link to your song... is that what you're basing your prediction on?

Cakewalk has made tremendous strides in the past six years. No reason to think they won't continue to grow and prosper in the coming years.

So what's the problem. Wasn't Cakewalk the first native DAW to offer a completely 64-bit path? Isn't Cakewalk actually ahead in some ways? I'm probably missing something here.

Cakewalk is the most bang for your buck out there. I wonder how many of Stei, I mean Yamaha, I mean........ "new" features actually work as intended at this stage of the game. If you are going to move from Sonar, go to a real "platform"..........

As an ex cubase user I have to say that Sonar's implementation of the VST standard is dreadful.

Why include it as a feature through using a wrapper? If cubase can manage to have DXi natively, surely Cakewalk can include VST properly in Sonar. I mean, Cakewalk have managed to do pretty much everything else better than Steinberg!!

Well, Sonar doesn't really support the old VST standard yet. I really don't expect them to get to the new one any time soon.

pfffft. I don't care about radio play and record sales. 6-figures kinda make that a moot point.

I don't pout, sport. I do however enjoy pointing out hypocrites like yourself, that **** about songs (recording in Sonar) being posted here but don't have any problem posting off topic stuff that they approve of. Time for you to slink back into your hole, and change your sig.
