I still have no idea of what you hae, there are literally hundreds of options in computer systems, both in desk tops and laptops, most now come with built in sound cards, that are either real tek or sound max, the problem is that if you have a laptop you might not have any midi ports, even some desk tops do not come with midi ports, if that is the case then midi input is not possible and setup becomes difficult. that said let's see what we can do.
First go to the start button on the computer and find control panel, and click on sounds and audio devices, and see what is listed as the sound device, close all that. Go to the tool bar at the top of MC, and click options/audio find the advanced tab, and choose the driver mode of MME, MME is one of three choices of audio drivers that one can choose, the others are WDM and ASIO, in general to get you started MME is the easiest to setup. Later we can help you move over to WDM and get better results. Move over to the general tab and choose the sound card as the playback and record option. Next go to options/midi devices and again choose Microsoft synth GS as the midi device.
Now midi and audio should work just peachy. Let us know if there are other problems, and make a note of the sound card name and when asking for help give us that and the amount of ram and CPU speed those little things can help us help you. Rob
