While I am sure you are following the correct procedure, I am just as sure that you are missing a major point that so many miss when they try to do a midi to audio conversion, so don't wory it is an easy fix.
Are you using MME drivers and Microsoft synth GS? So when you do a bounce to tracks nothing appears in the track just lines, but no wave file. The reason for this is that it will not bounce thru Microsoft synth GS at least for me it won't and for others I have worked with. In order to record the midi thru MSS GS you need to open a new audio track, and arm it (click the little red R) and then hit the red dot on the transport bar and it will record as audio then export that as both a wave file and an MP3.
In order to use bounce to tracks to get a mixed down wave file you need to bounce it thru a true softsynth like edirol VSC.
To do that go back and delete the Microsoft synth mixed audio track, and open a new audio track and right click the little FX box and go to DX instruments, and find Edirol VSC, then click that it will appear in the Fx box, then go to EDIT and find select and then all all the tracks will turn dark, then go to TRACK and find properties, click that and go to output, and click that a box will appear, that will allow you to choose the output for all the midi files choose Edirol VSC, then go back to EDIT and click bounce to tracks a blue progress bar will move across the bottom of the screen and after wards a new audio track will appear, solo that and listen if it sounds like it wanted it to, then export that to a new wave file and MP3
