installation problem

Ive been trying to install my cakewalk music creator 2003 for a while now, but it wouldnt detect directx 8.1 or whatever. I looked on the site's faq, and it said to download the direct the directx utility file, and run that. So i did but it says inert your cd-rom into the d drive and then press continue, but after i put the cd in, the directxutility program cant read it, can anybody pleasse help em, I dont want to have wasted all that money on software that i cant even use

    Put your cd in the drive before you run the directx utility.
