Guitar isolation cabinet

Hello,

Does anyone have advice on guitar iso cabs? Does it accent certain frequencies having the mic and speaker in an enclosed space? What are the cons of using them? Do you think that I could get better results just recording at lower volumes (this is what I am doing now, with decent results but I prefer to goose the power tubes on my amp.)

Thanks in advance for any input,
Brian

What could it hurt to try a sideways box with a mic in it?

    1973 "A" neck.

    I'd rather be playing Bass:

    1. Yes.

    2. See above. Whether it's a pro or a con or a combination of both depends on a lot of things.

    3. I agree with you-- guitar amps do not sound as good unless they're really pushing the power tubes, the speakers, and the enclosure. But putting the cabinet in a soundproof box might do more harm that good, although there's nothing to stop you from trying it.

My personal advice would be to get a quieter amp. A lot of massive guitar sounds were actually recorded on little 5 or 10 watt combos.

    Cheers.

You could try using an attenuator like the THD hotplate if you want to push the tubes. I haven't used the thd myself, but have a homemade attenuator which I run on a Carvin MTS head. Works fine!
