Thanks for the links. Hate to say it but I'm becoming less excited about this synth. So far I haven't heard anything that couldn't be accomplished in one of many alternate ways, and with many alternate tools, including my Motif Rack ES w/ Dance Xpanded voice library. What's continuing to get me more excited is the new Arturia Prophet V. W/ Rapture I've yet to hear that rich fullness in the midrange that I require. I'm sure it will be really exciting as a science project for many, but I need a fat sound and unfortunately I'm not feeling it from Rapture. I hope to be proved wrong.

I need a fat sound Even considering regional differences regarding how one judges ‘fatness’ (big boned or plain overweight?), I think it's safe to say the Rapture possesses some serious sonic girth. The audio demos that have been posted are a tiny taste of what lies beneath. Plus, before you lay down the bucks consider the added value of Cakewalk support: just look at what René & Chad have dished up over the last couple of weeks. That said, if you're heart is nostalgic for vintage pads, maybe I'm trying to push you the wrong way. It really depends on how much programming you want to do: if you only want to flick through presets, you already know that Rapture isn't aimed at you. If you want to build some things yourself and know what you want to hear, this is one serious sound engine.

Respectfully I think I should be able to do both - flick through great presets AND have deep programming capabilities. re: fatness, it's of course subjective. I'm so far not hearing what trips my trigger. Not that I wouldn't use Rapture as part of a pallete of softys. That's what makes the whole softy thing so cool - low investment requirments. For less than a grand you could have a very nice set of colors. I see Rapture fitting in the high end, and for rhythmic effects created with the step gens once you gurus publish the tutorials.
But for the middle pads, synth strings, and brass, so far I'm still looking at some of the other stuff, i.e. Fab Filter Twin, Arturia Prophet V, GMedia Minimonsta, Sytrus, etc...
But as I keep saying, I would love to be proved wrong by being presented with some great fat sounding 1980s-style pads and brass out of Rapture. That way I could go with one synth and learn it fully.

What's continuing to get me more excited is the new Arturia Prophet V. Arturia has some nice synth, Moog, mini Moog, Arp, And this now is cool because it is the best of two versions of the Prophet. As far as what is best for you compared to Rapture, It depends on what you need, which synth has more sounds in the area you need sounds ie bases, ie cool leads. I would not buy Rapture based on the coolness factor, nore would I buy it based on popuarity in the P5 forum. Both synths cost 200 dollars, if you do get the Prophet 5, please let me know if you like it.

I'm sort of with you, Rick! Sort of..... After walking in Guitar Center yesterday and seeing all the soft synths, it kind of opened my eyes to look beyond the pasture I'm currently standing on. Ya know? Regardless, I will probably still get Rapture...... 90% sure of it...

Hi All, Just FYI, I wll be doing some clinics over the next few weeks in Los Angeles and Denver showing off Rapture and DM Pro. If you are interested in attending, here are the date. 1. Wed, March 15th at Guitar Center South Bay - 6PM (Brandon Ryan will be sitting in on that session) 2. Thursday March 30th at the Musician's Superstore in Westminster, CO - 6:30PM. this clinic is more Home Studio based, but you can bet that I'll whip out the synths  3. Thursday April 6th at West LA Music in Santa Monica with a Cakewalk endorser (more info soon) - 7PM 4. Thursday April 13th at Sam Ash Music West Hollywood with a Cakewalk endorser - 6:30PM Trust me, there will be more dates soon (SF Bay Area, Las Vegas, etc)....
