Dimension Pro opening?

I just loaded DP on my computer. Where do I go from here? When I click on
an element I get a sfz load bar that doesn't load anything. The sample screens in
the user's manual do not come up. I see them only in picture form in the resources folder.
I hate to say I'm lost, "but I'm lost."

Welcome to the fray, CA. Click on that "Empty Program" slot close to the top. That'll open up the Program Browser popup. Then set aside a few hours for 'bliss'. HTH

I hate to sound like an idiot, but what empty slot where? I'm needing
to be spoon fed for a while until I get the hang of this program.

Right above the four buttons labelled E1, E2, E3 and E4 is a blue rectangular field. It should have text in it saying "Empty Program". Click on that.

There-in lies my problem. I cannot find the program browser with the
four buttons. In what file or folder should I be looking to find it? There are
6 folders in my DP file. Documentation-Multisamples-resources-Elements-Programs and
    sample pool.
Other files are: Default effects, DP.dll, Defaultregion, unins000 and setup/uninstall.
I see no place reflecting the 4 element buttons and empty slot to click on to. This is by the way, the second time I've loaded DP from the DVD's. I guess I need to be directed, in exact steps where to find the browser. I do appreciate all the help.

Sorry, man. I missed that. John's got you pointed in the right direction. You can also drop down one of those DXi Presets at the top. Hmm ... what are you using as a host app? That might possibly play into this.

And Dave: I want to help with that, but I have no way to get there. You might consider editing your post's subject line, and including "Mac" in the title. That'll get the attention of the Mac people. Perhaps someone thinks that I already answered this for you, but with Mac in the title, they'll know for sure that I didn't. Good luck. There's nothing worse than getting a "new toy", and not getting past the first hurdle. I've been there.

Listen, guys: I've got Dimension Pro up on the other computer, so I'll keep checking back here to look in on the progress report. If I can manage to help anything along, I'd be willing to give it a try. Let's get you guys up & running.

Edit OK, CA. Just saw the latest. Don't even screw around with those folders yet. You need Dimension's GUI up. The graphical representation of DP loaded in a host application. Sorry: this sounds so condescending, but it isn't meant to be. I'm just having a hard time picturing where you're at, and with what.

CALIFORNIA, Dimension Pro is a plugin, which requires a host application to run. You can use any VST or DXi host application on PC, and any VST or AU host on the Mac.

So the first question I'd ask in order to help you more is, do you have a host application installed? If so, which one is that?

And for those just tuning in, I have garage band as host, but could probably dig something else up if there is a more straightforward mac vst/au host to start out with.

    Thanks!

That's good. So you probably have a Cakewalk host application of some sort: Sonar. Project5, one of the Home Studios, maybe even that Guitar Tracks app. We need to know which one that is, and the version number of it (for example: Sonar 4, or Project5 V2). That lets everyone have an idea of how to help you step-by-step through the loading process of Dimension Pro. Everything uses basically the same process, but takes different routes in getting there.

[Dave: hang in there, man. There's not too many Mac guys here, as that's a bit of a recent development for these parts. I'm trying to steer someone with some Mac knowledge your way.]

I bought Sonar 5 producer at the same time I bought DP, last Sat. Mar 18th. Installing Sonar
was a snap compared to DP. I brought in a file and changed the output to the TTS soft synth, no problem. I see DP now as on the list. I changed the outputs to DP but could hear no sound coming out. I still want the load program bar to hear samples, but so far no luck. I also see no
area in VST that would help loading the samples either.

OK, CA. Now we're cooking with gas. I've got Sonar 3 & 4 here: it can't be that much different for the basics. OK, two ways to go here. You load up Dimension Pro in the FX Bin of an Audio track, and you have to point a MIDI track at it. Or, you use Insert/DXi Synth, and then load the DP sample-synth from that. That'll create a pre-connected set of MIDI/Audio tracks, with Dimension Pro in it. You already got the TTS-1 up & making noise, so you're all set. I'm going to assume that you used the second type of loading method.

So, you load up Dimension Pro, and I'm guessing that you're not seeing the GUI. That gorgeous little interface where you get to tweak all ther knobs, and push all the buttons. Find the text 'Dimension Pro' somewhere in your Audio track, and double-click on it. That should bring up the interface.

It has DIMENSIONPRO in big block letters in the upper-right. Follow that line of sight directly to the left, skipping over the group of four little icons. That black rectange that faintly displays "Empty Program" is the slot that we've been referring to. Click on it, and the Program Browser pops up. You'll see a huge collection of preset programs, categorized by type and instrument.
I still want the load program bar to hear samples, but so far no luck. I also see no area in VST that would help loading the samples either.
You really don't get a "preview" of Dimension's samples, you just ... load them. There's several different layers of file types in Dimension Pro, and that can be confusing at first. We want to push you to the top of the food chain: the Programs. Actually, I'd be happy with getting any sounds out at your end, and then we'll work up from there.

If you followed this, let me know how you made out. If there's more questions that arose from all this, please feel free to return those back this way.

So your using GB an apple only app? But you Have Sonar 5 P on a windows machine? Right above the e1e2e3e4 buttons is a blank view it says empty program. If you click it the program browser window pops up with all the main catagories. If you click just one,+ it expands to show all the programs under that heading. Double click any prog to load.

I appears you have 2 machines as GB is apple and Sonar is Windows only. Dimension Pro can be either one. It will load in a mac or windows machine. I have not seen the apple gui. but I can't imagine the view is that much different.

No, Larry. It's getting a little confusing, but we have two guys with similar problems. Davein3D has the Mac, and Garageband, and he can't get Dimension Pro to load up in it at all. California here has Windows (he has to: Sonar), and can get Dimension Pro to load, but no sound comes out.

I'd like to ferret out some help for Dave, but I'm unqualified for the Mac stuff myself. CA: maybe I can get him up & running. Anyone: please feel free to step in and help either one of these guys along.

Hooray! b rock, your latest suggestion worked and I got the GUI up where I
could see it and do a little playing with it. I loaded a bass as that was the first track. Of course all the other tracks played bass as well. I'm gonna have to learn how to seperate tracks into different instruments, but for now I'm a happy camper to get this far. I'll write a simple track to use where I can listen to other sounds.
By the way, I do not have any apple machines, only standard window machines.
It's only 7:30 here in la la land, but I'm whipped from 2 days of trying to get DP running.
I'll play with it some more tommorrow and I'll probably then have lots more questions.
Thanks for all the help. I truely couldn't have done without it.
    See ya tommorrow.

But you did save the day for California ;)+) Me I'm just not paying enough attension. Just reading the thread as if I guy had a problem.

Davein3d if GB supports VST you should have no trouble loading up sounds. That window right above the E1 E2 E3 E4. It says empty program. click to get browser. Then the + next to a type to expand to progs. Double click a prog to load.

Cool. CALIFORNIA is at least up and running. Yay B Rock. Again.

(By the way I'm going there "...with an achin'...in my heart...")

Larry, the whole deal with GB is it's all AU. There is a VST-> AU wrapper than you can buy that works on Macs and is compatible with GB, but that's not the problem. Just so we don't confuse the issue, let's all agree (at least us regulars) to deal with Dave's Mac problem in THIS thread!!!!
