Hello everyone...
Huston, I have a problem! My Home Studio XL keeps on crashing.... I already re-installed the Sonar program 3 times and also installed and re-installed the XP update from yes cakewalk support, but I still kept on crashing...
here is what's on my computer....
1) ableton Live 4 with O2 USB MIDI controller
2) line6 pod xt live
3) guitar rig 2 (native instruments)
4) m-audio bass and drum rig (synth)
5) m-audio key rig (synth)
6) windows XP SP2
7) dual pentium 2.4ghz with 1gig ram and a huge ass SATA drive 500G drives and another 500 external drive all drives running at 7200rpms, internal sound card (suck) Realtek HD
8)M-Audio 2496 USB sound module (external)
Seems your system shouldn't be the problem (although I think you need more RAM considering all you're running)...
Here is the error I get... when it crashes.
1) SONARHS.EXE Application Error.
a)The instruction at "0x06058acc" reference memory at "0X00000048". The memory could not be "read".
b)The instruction at "0X72831099" reference memory at "0X00000004". The memory could not be "read".
2) Then when I check to see the error report this is what it said;
AppName: sonarhs.exe AppVer: 13.0.1.41 ModName: rvi01dx.dll
ModVer: 1.5.1.0 Offset: 00008acc
First of all (as best as I've been able to figure out), the RVi01dx.dll file is a part of the Edirol VSC soft-synth (included in HS2XL) and has been a problem across multiple platforms (Sonar 4, FL Studio, etc.,) so you're not the first to experience the problem. Therefore, since the problem is not occuring exclusively in Cakewalk programs I would assume that it orginates within the programming codes in Edirol's registry configuration.
Try going to
Roland's Edirol VSC site and checking to see that you have the latest drivers for the Edirol plugin...You might also consider contacting their tech support and giving full details of what you're actually doing when HS2XL crashes...(you didn't mention whether you were attempting to load the Edirol VSC when this happens)...
If that doesn't work you should contact Cakewalk's tech support and see if they have any suggestions.
DISCLAIMER (to save my arse)
: My system is similar to yours (except I'm running Pentium IV at 3.1Ghz with 2MB RAM and two external HD's--also, I use the M-Audio Delta Audiophile 192 internal sound card) and I've used the Edirol VSC plugin within HS2XL with no problems. I've actually used it on sessions that also included running NI's Kompakt, Elektrik Piano and FM7 plugins in addition to EWQL's Symphonic Orchestra library plus running external MIDI tracks from my Ensoniq ASR-10 and I haven't encountered a problem...
Having said that, let me assure you that I am not a computer genius (I learn something new everyday) but I DO know that how your computer is configured can make a great difference in how it performs. There are a lot of "tweaks" that need to be implemented in order to achieve optimum performance when using DAW systems...
Ok... I guess... you can say I am pissed off... can someone kindly help me....
thanks a million.

I notice that you're a new member (who just joined the forum and you're posting for the first time)...We welcome you and want to help, but don't get too "pissed off" initially when something doesn't go quite right for you...
DAW recording can get frustrating when one "toy" doesn't play well with another "toy"...Alas, that happens in even the most expensive industry-standard systems at times...
We're dealing with computers here and they are (
GASP!) NOT infallible...There may be things going on in the background that create "conflicts" within certain programs...Keep in mind that a "full-blown" DAW setup running "full-throttle" uses CPU resources in an exorbitant manner...That's where "tweaking" can be a significant factor in how YOUR system performs...
I hope this helps a bit...Sorry I couldn't give you a more definitive answer that could resolve your issue with a matter of a mouse click or two...
Regards,
Papa
