New Computer and Direct X 9

Hello great ones!

I read a post a while back that if my memory serves me correctly - I cannot install Sonar 2.0 if direct X 9 is installed. I did a search and couldn't locate the post. I tried installing the software and and it prompted me to install Direct X 8.1. I tried this several times and it stated that it was a successful install. Still unable to install sonar 2.0 and continued to prompt me forDX 8.1 I'm pretty certain that it is being overridden by DX9.

What do I do? I can't wait to get my new system tweaked - a difficult task if I cannot install the software . . . . How do I get rid of DX9?

I am running XP

TIA

Search google.com for DirectX remover. You need to remove Direct X once you are able to run Sonar just install Directx9 again.

cant get rid of DX9 safely. There "are" a few unoffical programs that will remove DX but I wouldnt advise it. Sonar has a sollution to cure the DX9 problem in the database.

I did not have any trouble at all on my side! You just need to install directx9 after the sonar installation. I try the Sonar DX remover but with no success

Thanks to all. I went to sonar support and found what I had prevoiusly read. I was able to get my new athlon 64 3000+ up and running. I must say it's kinda like being a baby in a candy store! What a quantum leap from an athlon 550! My Sonar 3 should be here by the end of the week. Can't wait!

    Thanks again,

    John

NEWS - Can't install our products after adding Microsoft DirectX 9 to your system? Click here for help.

Go to Cakewalk Download Update Patch.

    Problem:
After installing Microsoft DirectX 9, most Cakewalk products will not install properly. You may receive an error message stating "You must install DirectX 8 to proceed" or "You are not running Windows 95. Please upgrade to Win 98, ME, XP..." Both errors are caused by the presence of Microsoft DirectX 9 on your system. We have learned that since the installers built into several Cakewalk products were designed with earlier versions of DirectX in mind, they have a problem when DirectX 9 is detected.

The problem affects installation only. If you've already installed one of our products such as SONAR or Pyro 2003, they will function correctly. The program operation is NOT affected by the presence of DX 9. If your Cakewalk product is installed and running, you do not need to do anything. Enjoy the software.

    Solution:
By following the steps below it is possible to install any of our products on a PC where DX 9 is present.

Open your CD drive and insert the installation CD of the Cakewalk product you're trying to install.
Download this file. (DirectXUtility).exe Save it to your Desktop
Double-click DirectXUtility.exe to begin the installation.
NOTE - The utility does NOT actually revert you to DX 8 or uninstall DX 9.

My buddy used one of the dx removers and had to reinstall his system. My point was, you can run the risk or play it safe.
