Midi message turns off keyboard intenal sounds

I have an old Korg M1 keyboard and a friend has a Korg Triton. We both have the same problem. When Sonar 5 opens, it sends a MIDI message to the keyboards to "turn off the internal keyboard audio". So we both have to either go through the keyboard menus or turn the keyboard off then on to get the internal sounds back.

What and where in Sonar is the setting to change this behavior so Sonar will not turn off the internal audio?

Thanks

When you say "internal keyboard audio" are you talking about the ability to play the Korg from its own keyboard while SONAR is open? This is controlled by the "local" MIDI parameters in the ttseq.ini file. If SONAR is turning local control off, you should see the parameter "SendLocalOff=1" in the ttseq.ini file. Replace the "1" with the number "0" and save the file. Then next time you start SONAR it should leave local control on.

See page 133 in the manual - it describes making an adjustment in the TTSEQ.INI file that sends an automatic local off message. Now, this doesn't actually turn off internal sounds, it turns off the control of your internal sounds from the synth's keyboard. This can be a good thing to prevent note doubling, and can be made useful by simply patching a midi cable back to your synth's midi in.
Hope that's what you need - if not, that is the area to be looking at!

You make a good point, Brian. When your MIDI synths are hooked up to SONAR, you don't really need to have the local keyboard turned on because SONAR can echo the MIDI data back to the keyboard. That will result in doubled notes if you don't disable the input echo feature. Depending on how you want to use your synths, you can try leaving local control off and fiddling with the settings of the input echo button (read the "Controlling Live MIDI Playback--MIDI Echo" topic in the help file for more info).

Really old thread, here's an update for Sonar Professional - which is now RIP. The instructions above are correct:

    ***
This is controlled by the "local" MIDI parameters in the ttseq.ini file. If SONAR is turning local control off, you should see the parameter "SendLocalOff=1" in the ttseq.ini file. Replace the "1" with the number "0" and save the file. Then next time you start SONAR it should leave local control on.
    ***

Page 1711 of the Sonar Ref Guide in C:\Program Files\Cakewalk\SONAR Professional address the ttsseq.ini file. It doesn't say so but I had to put the "SendLocalOff=1" directive in the [OPTIONS] section, otherwise it doesn't work.

The initialization file are found here:

    SONAR Platinum: %AppData%\Cakewalk\SONAR Platinum
    SONAR Professional: %AppData%\Cakewalk\SONAR Professional
    SONAR Artist: %AppData%\Cakewalk\SONAR Artist
    Cakewalk.ini
    TTSseq.ini
    Aud.ini

    Hope this helps someone.
