Book on the Music Industry

Can anyone recommend a book on the music industry business stuff that someone who could possibly, just might land a contract, should read? Things like contracts, publishing, lables etc, all the stuff I don't know anything about.

There are many good publications that explain the in's and out's; one that I read years ago was titled "This (The?) Business of Music", but whew brother..it was complex, and read more like a law text book than a "how to"...but it did cover all aspects.

I don't know if it's still in print or not, but there have been many books written since that are easier to read and still cover the bases.

Here's a link that might be helpful to you.

But...if you are indeed close to a deal of some sort, do NOT rule out using an Entertainment attorney, even if you think you have a handle on the contract.

It's worth the couple hundred you'd spend for council from a pro who just might save your butt from a bad deal.
