How to EQ a Dobro?

I got great help in getting the mandolin to sit in the mix, but now I'm having a problem getting the dobro to "sit" right. I used a sm57 to capture the sound, through an Onyx 800R preamp. Any takers?

Thanks!

David

If it's in a mix I would back off from it a bit so you don't get too much noise or low end, however you do need a quiet room for that. If you have a ribbon mic that would be way cool. Or if you have a good shotgun mic that will let you get the distance without picking up the entire room. Those Sony EMC series short shotguns from a BetaCAM would be perfect, wish I still had one, I've bought and sold 8 of them on e-bay for a profit but I have not seen any on there lately. I always forget to save one for my collection LOL !

Yeah use a larger condensor. The dobro already has a physical restriction on its sonority. You want to use a microphone that adds some warmth and a full tonal spectrum.
