Staff View

What I'm trying to do is use the staff editor to set up some sheet music and then play it back so I can hear my music.

When I press play, I get no sound. The progress monitor doesn't even show a change in time. I can play the sample files and I do get sound from them.

Also, the documentation says that when I insert a note on the staff, I'll hear that note, but I don't.

I've done some reading, and I checked to make sure my audio card is selected both in the options dialog and on each track in my project.

What am I doing wrong?

Thanks in advance for any help you can offer.

The staff view is designed to input midi data, and playback must be thru a synth chip of some kind, either the internal Microsoft synth GS or a chip in the sound card or some softsynth like edirol VSC.

I'd Seize the day but i can't quite reach it!

Thanks for the help. That did allow me to hear what I was doing.

I have another staff view question for whoever is following this thread.

    I'm arranging a four-part acapella piece. Here's what I'd LIKE to do:

Set up four tracks so that in the MIDI, I can manipulate them individually.

On the printed page, though, show all four tracks, and if at all possible...

Show two of the tracks on the treble cleff (tenor and lead) and the other two (baritone and bass) on the bass cleff.

I'd like to be able to set up the sound in four tracks but print the sheet music in a legible fashion. Is this possible with Music Creator?

    Thanks.

    gavicus,
maybe, but MC wasn't designed for professional sheet music printing in mind. I've found the staff view helpful because it shows you what midi is recorded in "music notation" form for those who read music, but to manipulate it to a perfect STBB form will take a lot of work. I'm not saying it can't be done, but it will take a lot of work.

As an alternate suggestion, check out some other programs which are more suited to printing sheet music:
(this one has a pretty good free version)
    Melody Assistant
(I use this one as PHOTOSCORE - $24 for software that will let you SCAN sheet music and turn it into MIDI data for uploading into MC! Very cool! - but they also have PRO sheet music creation software)

    Yea Gav,
MC is def not a professional notation program. It does print out sheet music, but the functionality of it is somewhat limited, as its simply a by-product of the program. The main emphasis is on recording and editing. If you want to do more than basic notation functions you should really look elsewhere. Hope this helps and that you find what you need.

The staff view can be set up to show which clef(s) you want to see, and which tracks you want to see. There should be a toolbar above the staff. Click on each button and see what it does. You can do what you want to do in staff view.
Oh, if you can tell us what your computer specs are, and which program you're using, that will help. Do you have a MIDI keyboard connected? Or are you using only the mouse and sound card for input and output? Be advised that some sound cards do not support MIDI, which might be why you can't hear MIDI, or it's not set up properly. Greg
