Need to send audio 40 feet, what method?

Hello,

I need to transmit audio a distance of about 40 feet (from a DAW to an amplifier in another room). There are connectors for either RCA or SPDIF. What would be the preferred method/cable for such a distance? SPDIF, RCA, either or neither?

Thanks much,

Sonic

Have you looked at RCA over CAT 5? There are little converter boxes for sale that take your RCA IN on 1 end and send it out over a network cable on the other end, then
    visa-versa on the other end.

Max distance with that box is like 2,500 feet.

Thanks. No, I hadn't thought of CAT5. I suspect the most pristine method is to go digital (SPDIF). However I'm not sure about tolerance to distance... I'd be going from an RCA-SPDIF connector out of the sound card into a TOSLINK on the audio amp. Is 40 feet within the usable range for a SPDIF cable?

    SPDIF

Max distance of S/PDIF is about 30 feet. But you'd probably want to go less than that to be on the safe side.
