Any new sound libraries for DP?

Hey All,

Anyone know of any new sound libraries for Dimension Pro? Any in the sfz format? The original library is ok, but I'd like to expand my sonic base a bit. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

What type of sounds frank? Smart loops has drum sounds. And well, a coverter would let you expand in any direction. Lots of pre-existing lib's waiting to be converted, and no waitng to be released to sfz.

I think Garritan released their jazz bank. That should be SFZ, but I couldn't find that info in Electronic Musician. But I didn't get the mag until late today and have been watching basketball. Go Mavs! (it was either them of the Spurs)

I think Precisionsound offer some samples in SFZ formats. This includes some of their keyboards range. I'm not sure how their Rhodes and Wurly compare to DPro, though, but the demos sound very nice.

    Hi lawapa,
My understanding is that Dimension has special features for real time expression. Wouldn't a converter just convert the bare minimum, like the lowest common denominator, between sample formats?

I would think that a sound library would only take advantage of a samplers features
if it was designed for it from the beginning.

Between different samplers the setting are different. But to take full advantage of the programing already in Dpro do a conversion, then chose a D pro sound that is the same. Ya know a piano sound for a piano set. Load up the Dpro sound then browse to your new sound in the sample window and load it up. You will have to tweak it some but a save the progam will lock that in. Most important settings will tranfer but not all. And you can never be quite sure what is lost when you convert. But you have quite a group of tweakers in the gui you can use to adjust that sound.

An exact tranfer is not possible. With some older sound sets with very small loops you can find your self frustrated as these do not sound as good with dimension because the sound engine is so much better than what we are used to. But you do have a sound engine that will do justice to great sample sets. A very important factor.

If you find tweaking sounds not that easy to do with a little time and patience new content will be released to Dpro and you then only need to load a patch up and go. The sound set as is is big, expansive, almost all inclusive?

One thing to remember is differences in the way a set sounds can be mostly processing. And with Sonar you do have processing options.

Can REASON Refills be used with Dimension? What file formats can be used?

Thats the problem, I have Dimension Pro, but I can't open the samples to find out what format they are in. They are for REASON. I just don't want to be stuck with them if they won't do me any good. Does anyone know it Rex format is used for REASON? Thanks for any help. I will also check their website.

If you have not purchased these refills and do not know what format they are it would be safe to assume it's not a good Idea to buy them. But what you could do is research and see if these can be pulled up in a sample editor and modified for use in Dimension. I do not have reason so I can't comment on weather these might be used or not but I think nothing but the rex files can work outside reason. I do not work with the rex format as of yet so I'd be wary of any refill if I did not know weather they would work within Dpro.

The Rex player in Reason uses .rex files.Refills usually have a bunch of different formats in them for the various synths that Reason has.Not all refills have all formats.

If I throw a stick will you leave?

Refills are compressed 'archives' of samples, synth patches etc that can only be read by Propellerhead products...if the box states that it is a Reason Refill and doesn't also offer other formats, then it will be useless for you to use in any other software. What refill is it?

It was definitely a REASON refill called "Exotic Instruments". I already exchanged it. I appreciate all the help.

bobleft; I have prosamples vol 30-31 Rare Ethnic Instrument/World Instruments. They will port directly to Akai, es24, Halion with audio and wave files disk. When I got these sets I did sf2's right away from the wavefile disk. These could be used directly in Rapture/Dpro Using the wavefile disk or if your a mind to you could write a SFZ for your own sets. If this sounds to over your head that's ok I just thought I'd offer a work around for you if your still interested in this type of stuff for your sequencing. Prosounds from east/west are not ultra high end, the cost per set is in the 30-40 dollar range ;)+)

I might add Dpro does have a nice selection of ethnic percussion ;)+)

I'll be releasing a sample + preset addon for DPpro and Rapture, that's made up of sounds from Additive synthesizers, some time in the summer.....maybe mid-late July, if all goes as planned. It'll be free too....just have to figure out how and where to host the files.

Excellent! Won't be done till July...I'm still looping a few of the instruments, and there are around 12 more instruments I have yet to sample....then I'll have to map to SFZ, and then, of course, put together a bundle of presets for DPro and Rapture using the samples...but I'll definitely drop you a line when it's ready to go. It's gonna be a decent size too....some of the sounds have alot of movement in them, so I've had to sample every key over 5 or 6 octaves to keep the sound from speeding up.
