[TRACK] Shift 03

ello all,

well I guess I am out of my rut! well I hope so!

This is a try at something a little heavier/industrial. This is the direction I have always wanted to go down - distorted guitars.

See what you think. Comments on the guitar sound will be interesting! I'll tell you why later

Not sure on the mix - I think I might have removed too much bass from each instrument?

Just click below

Cheers for any comments/crits

Dirty. I like this track. It has a NiceInYoFaceFeel. My only gripe is the middle break, I feel the song should move along to the sweet ending (i.e., leave some drum element). The guitars are so analogue sounding. The dude from theThe would love em'.

    have a good one

    Cheers for the comments 3Eo,

I know what you mean about the middle bit, I do want a bit of a more chilled moment, but as you say maybe it's a bit bare. I have an idea about the emptiness.

The guitars are a free pugin from Voxengo (Boogex) and my guitar is plugged stright into my laptop via the line in. I think they sound pretty good for such a cheap set-up- - I have gone from a Ibanez JS1000 with a podxt to a third-hand guitar and no pre-amp!!!

Gonna have another look at the mix/mastering though - not too happy with it

    Thanks again

    ello,

thanks for the comments eonic - is the end not too abrupt?

I have changed a few things now - hopefully has a better overall sound - less harsh, more warm - still distorted tho :)

    why...your e0nic silly....

the guitars in this were a nice touch. gritty drums....my favorite.

I liked the mid section without the drums, and the piano floating along...added to the mood.

    nicly done.....

Nice rut breaker! Like the piano. I'm not partial to the bass sound at :43 when it first comes in but, after listening a little longer, it grew on me a little. I like the drums and the fact that you put some extended sections in without them. I think it adds tension and excitement when they do re enter. Nice layering of sounds too. Great listen!

    thanks :10: and clarkeo,

:10: glad you like the guitars, gonna do more of that in future on my tracks. drums I wasn't sure of, but they sound okish to me

clarkeo - I know what you mean about the bass sound initially everytime I listen I think the same, I might have to adjust the initial volume of it or maybe try and put it back in the mix then bring it forward on the louder parts?

    Thanks for your comments.

This sounds really good. The guitars worked really well and added an interesting texture to the track. It sounds like you've found your perfect genre as this sounds great.

    Cheers Blipp,

I hope so (found my perfect genre) - as I said I always wanted to do this sort of music from the moment I bought P5 just never managed it, lets hope I can produce some more.

    Thanks again.

    Hey Rich! This sounds great.

Heavy, edgy, and guitars work great!

    Rich,

The Voxengo (Boogex) is a great effect expecially considering it's free. I have been experimenting with 2 in the chain and other effects in between with some surprising results. Keep the volume of your speakers low when trying it out though.
