Recording inputs

Hi, i have recently bought an m-audio 2496 sound card and guitar tracks pro. In order to begin recording my guitar do i need a buy a pre-amp or can i just connect my recording output from my amplifier to the RCA connectors on the sound card. Are there any disadvantages to this such as loss of sound quality. Thanks

You're best bet is to get a small mixer or preamp and mic your amp.

Alternatively you can get a DI box if you want to go straight in. Results can be less than stellar though

What kind of amp do you have?

To maximize your 24/96 potential I'd get a 4 bus mixer.

I tried using just my amp recording output but it was just too quiet, so i bought an m-audio audio buddy pre-amp which seems to have dont the trick. Expensive stuff this recording business!
