Classes???

I have had Music Creator for about six weeks. It's a great program, but I admit, I can do very little with it thus far. The tutorials are somewhat helpful, but because I am not a recording engineer, half of what they talk about just goes over my head. Are there classes anywhere for this program? I live in San Diego. Anything in So. Cal.

I have recieved e-mails for some of Cakewalks more advanced ad-on's, but they don't do me much good at this point. Kind of feel as if I need a sound engineering background to figure out all but the most basic functions. Not complaining, just need some education... Cakewalk 101 Classes with a live person.... maybe? Anyone have any info. Thanks !!!

I don't know of any classes available specifically. I can tell you that the local Community college here in Ft. Worth has classes on "digital recording" which use HS 2004 (I think) as their teaching platform. You can also learn a lot from books on the subject. I started out with a "dummies" book on home recording. Laugh if you will, but it gave me a lot of great starter information.

I still yearn for one on one mentoring from a recording and/or mixing engineer, but alas I have yet to find someone to "teach me the ropes". Good luck.

Cakewalk has traveling seminars, I think, and most large music stores (Guitar Center, Sam Ash) sometimes have classes on home recording, but those are more generic. I started with a book called "MIDI For Musicians" by Craig Anderton written in 1986! Then combed the music store book shelves and found a few others that came with CD ROMs that were helpful, also. Check out the local store for more holdable material. It helped that my brother is a programmer and could help me with the computer stuff. Greg

Ask some specific questions and maybe we can answer them.

Robo has a very good set of help files just for the noobies, they get bumped up in this forum every once in a while, they might help. That recording for dummies book was very helpfull, and I bought a used "Sonar Power" book for about four dollars that was very helpfull, music creator is just a watered down sonar, just did a search for sonar and used in the same box and had plenty to pick from. And then there is the answer man himself, ask Robo anything, if he don't know the answer, there ain't one.

Thanks everyone for the replies. Reading a few books and taking a standard recoding class is probably a good idea. I did not realize how much was involved... but really enjoying it so far. Have not done much with music since my teens, but now in my mid-30's I feel like a kid again re-discovering my guitar, writing songs, and learning about recording. Beats 9-5 !!!! Thanks again.

The Desktop Music Handbook (and others like it on our Support Pages) is also a good place to start.
