K2 hangs

When I launch K2 it hangs on "Initializing Direct Sound"

XP Pro 5.1.2600 sp2

Intel P4 2.5G, 2 gigs physical Dual Channel DDR

RME Audio Fireface 800 (just flashed for latest drivers and firmware)

It will then load after about 4-5 mins..

Just wondering if anyone else has had this problem and knows the answer. Thanks.

Hi jake. Your memory seems rocking and specs are just fine.

I am going to shoot of the dark, did you try to uninstall and then install again ?

Did you have a previous version of Kinetic ? K2 does not install over the older version.

If you did , you might want to do the following for a better results. Try to install the new Version on a different drive from the previous copy and then uninstall the previous copy this will save you lots of space and duplications.

Yes I loaded it only to see that it didn't play well with Kinetic (the original) so I uninstalled both of them and then reinstalled K2 by itself. Set the drivers to ASIO 24 bit MSB (the only way it will make any sound). I just now restarted it and it's just sitting there. I even disabled the built in motherboard sound.

Okay when I disabled the motherboard sound it really cut down on how long it takes to load, now down to under 45 seconds. I suppose I can live with that. Funny cuz there wasn't anything hooked up to the motherboard I just went and checked the hardware profile and saw that it was loaded under sound controllers. So I disabled it. Better. Not Ideal. but better.

Disabling the on-board sound is one thing I've often seen recommended in setting up DAWs. Even if the on-board sound isn't hooked up, the drivers will still take resources and can sometimes cause conflicts. You might want to check http://www.musicxp.net/ for more tweaks.

FWIW my startup time takes about 25 sec, but the first time I ran K2 it took several minutes as well.

Thanks for the tweak site mumpcake. Looks like fun! Truth to tell it had been so long since I built this machine that I had forgotten that it had onboard sound. As I recall the onboard sound didn't work well in the first place, so I ignored it and it didn't seem to cause any problems with Sonar etc. to just let it load, now I'm thinking I'll find the specs and see if there isn't an onboard jumper that will disable it in hardware.
