arming an audio track

I have found that my audio tracks refuse to arm for recording. I cannot change the input channell from "none," and even using the computer's mixer device have I found an input that is acknowledged. Being a complete novice with midi, I have almost ceartainly overlooked something obvious, but I need to know what it is. I have followed what relevant advice I could find, but nothing seems to work. Help would be very much apreciated.

Thanks for the advice, but Wave Profiler was not located under advanced audio options. this may be because of the version (3.0). Anyway, still searching...
