keyboard oddity

another nube here with a puzzler (for me, anyway)
okay....i've got my keybaord interfaced with my pc through an M-audio Uno...I can hear the note(s) instantaneously and I can record the note(s) in MC.....uh, sort of. If I play one note or a chord or even a hundred notes or chords in rapid succession, everything's fine. But if I lift my finger(s) from the key(s) even for a moment, I'm experiencing a 3-4 second lapse before my keyboard will produce another note. I've tried several different settings in MC, but each settting I've tried thus far yields the same result. Have I overlooked a necessary setting in MC that might be causing this? Any input would be appreciated........and a solution would be grand.....

Hard to say off hand, but are you listening to the sound from the computers speakers or the keyboards? What driver mode are you using? What sound card do you have? What version of MC? What kind of computer? How fast of a CPU? How much Ram? What operating system? i need all this info to even begin to help. Look at it this way, i call a local garage and say "my car won't start any idea why?"

Listening through my pc speakers, not sure what you mean by driver mode, soundblaster audigy2, mc3.0, 2.93ghz cpu, 1 gig ram, winxp pro(sp2)

The audigy2 will work in ASIO mode, go to options/audio then the advanced tab and under playback and record there is a drop box called driver mode, switch to ASIO and close and restart the program and see if the latency is better. Also under the general tab in options/audio make sure the bit depth is 24 and the sample rate is 48,000 and see if the latency reading in that tab is lower.

thanks again for the quick response. I've changed the driver mode and bit depth as you instructed......I wasn't even aware that the ASIO drivers were available to me. Latency is showing 50 milliseconds and the slider has positioned itself all the way to the fastest position. however, the dratted pause between seperated notes is still there. the keyboard plays well through an amp, (it's an old Oberheim Eclipse) but this is my first experience with it as a midi instrument.....perhaps I've got a problem with the keyboards midi circuitry...i'll check into that.....i won't use up any more of your time......thanks for the assistance.....i learned a thing or two.

Here are a couple more things to try. 1. check the buffer setting in the m-audio applet window and set it to 512 latency buffering. see what it says in the pop up box, also try 256 and see which works the best. 2. also see if input monitoring is turned on under options/audio.
