Anyone using Toneport UX2 with MC successfully?

I can't get Music Creator to allow me to select 2 input drivers (Send 1 and Send 3) at the same time - so I can't record 2 channels at once. If I select Send 1 - I get only the mic channel of the UX2 - or Send 3 - only the guitar channel of the UX2. I am using the ASIO drivers. Can someone please tell me what I am doing wrong? Thanks!

Are you running Windows XP with SP2? If not, I'd get that going first. Make sure you've gone into the windows control panel, sound and audio devices icon, under the audio tab, confirm all the settings are relavant to you hardware setup.

I have the Digitech GNX3k guitar workstation that is conceptually similar to your Line6 piece. I've had to reinstall the s/w a number of times to get all the apps to sing in tune. Just make sure to uninstall before you reinstall any app(s). I will always go for the start menu uninstall first as it seems to do a more complete uninstall than the control panel approach.

Yes I am running XP w/ SP2. I have my Windows Audio settings set to use the Line6 UX2 as the sound card (since it is basically an external sound card). The two Sends show up in Music Creator but I just can't select them both at the same time - it is either one or the other. When you are using your GNX3k, can you record two seperate channels at once? And if so, does the GNX3k show up as two seperate Sends in the MC's Audio Drivers settings or just a 1?

I am not familiar with MC, but in SONAR 5, using the TonePorts ASIO mode I get the following choices, as possible inputs:

Left ASIO TonePort UX2 Send 1-2
Right ASIO TonePort UX2 Send 1-2
Stereo ASIO TonePort UX2 Send 1-2
Left ASIO TonePort UX2 Send 3-4
Right ASIO TonePort UX2 Send 3-4
Stereo ASIO TonePort UX2 Send 3-4

Also, in order to record two simultaneous sources, from the TonePort, you need to
properly choose your inputs, from the "Source Select" drop down list, located, on the GearBox. You have three choices, for multi-input:

    Mic 1 & 2
    Line 1 & 2
    Inst & Mic 1

So unless, there is a limitation, in Music Creator, you should be able to record multiple simultaneous sources. I routinely record vocal & guitar (using "Inst & Mic 1), on my UX2, using ASIO mode, in both, SONAR 5.2 & ACID Pro 6a.

    Cheers,

Thanks Billy - Instead of Music Creator, it sounds like I need to get a more robust program like Sonar 5 in order to record on 2 Tracks simultaneously. I was able to do that with Ableton Lite - I just didn't like that program. You get what you pay for...

MC3 will record two at the same time and is a stripped version of sonar. If you are having issues with MC it will be similar with sonar, I suggest ironing out the issues before throwing money at it.

MC3 does ASIO as well try that driver and se what happens.

Cakewalk is running a special, until July 30th, where you can upgrade Music Creator to SONAR 5 Studio, for $149. They are even tossing in free shipping too! That is quite a bargain, if you are looking to upgrade. SONAR 5 Studio even includes the excellent Sonitus:fx plugin suite, which sells alone, for $299.00, as a separate package.

Well if just buying Sonar won't solve my problem ... I guess I gotta keep hammering away at this until I get it solved (hopefully before the sale ends).

Under OPTIONS-AUDIO - Drivers Tab ... I have the following options:

    Input Drivers

    1: ASIO Toneport UX2 Send 1
    2: ASIO Toneport UX2 Send 3

    Output Drivers
    1: ASIO Toneport UX2 Output 1
    (this one is highlighted)

If I highlight SEND 1 ... I can not highlight SEND 3 at the same time. I believe that in order to record a Mic & Guitar at the same time, I need to send a Left & Right signal - the Mic being on Left and the Guitar on Right - to the input of Music Creator. Herein lies the problem, as I see it. If I can't select both drivers at the same time, then I don't get the option to assign Send 1 to one Track and Send 3 to another Track when recording.

check the other tabs under options/audio and see if one does not allow you to select with mode the asio river runs in and if one mode has a 1 & 2 option or a 1& 3 option

Check the 'in' drop down box of each track to see what the options are. Greg

fivesevengregy makes a great popint, in the audio tracks there are drop down input boxes, those allow you to use the left right or stereo input.

I think the limitations may lie within the capabilities of the TonePort - If the TonePort is stereo out, assuming sends are outputs in this case, then you've exhausted your output capability of the TonePort once you select one send (actually a pair - left/right).

Actually, the TonePort UX2 is a 2in/2out ASIO device (2 separate simultaneous stereo or mono tracks can be recorded, at a time, using Sends 1/2 & Sends 3/4). The hardware analog output is stereo (L & R), for monitoring purposes. You also have a S/PDIF stereo out that mimics the analog output and a separate headphone out.

You have (3) different input sources you can use, on the TonePort:

    (2) Mic inputs (with Phantom Power)
    (2) Instrument inputs (Normal & Pad, only one can be used, at a time)
    (1) Stereo Line input

Finally figured out why ... actually I emailed Tech Support and they told me that Music Creator is limited to a Stereo Input. Since I needed 4 inputs (Send 1,2,3,4) to utilize all the Toneport options, it wouldn't work. However... Sonar 5 is not limited in such ways. So like Billy suggested, I am upgrading to Sonar ... which was kinda what I planned to do when I originally bought Music Creator. I downloaded the Sonar demo just to be sure and it does work. YEAH!!

I take it you will be taking advantage, of the current $149 MC to SONAR 5 Studio special then? I don't think you will regret the upgrade. The TonePort works flawlessly with SONAR 5.2.

FYI, baring any last minute bugaboos, Line 6 will be releasing a free GearBox 2.0 update, in the next couple, of weeks. Many new features and enhancements, including a new Browser view (with built-in programmable metronome, player module, access to GuitarPort Online, Tone Library (for instantly downloading public tones) and more), some additional amps/cabs, improved GearBox GUI, compatiblity with the new Bass Model Pack and more.

Actually, I am going on the cheap ... to Sonar 4 - upgrade for $79. Since I haven't been doing any recording since Cakewalk 9.0, I figured Sonar 4 would have the basic things I am looking for ... and more. I had been waiting for Riffworks 2.0 for the last 6 months and finally got tired of waiting for them so that is why I am here buying Cakewalk.

Saying "Music Creator is limited to stereo input" is not correct. Your version of MC may be limited, but MC Pro 24 can record 4 simultaneous tracks at a time. I've successfully recorded 3 at a time, with MIDI in and an acoustic pickup on my guitar and a microphone. Greg
