noob help please...making beats
can i use this program to make a hip-hop beat from scratch.....or do i need instruments?....i mean is it just for recording and editing music or can i make my own original beats with cakewalk without any added hardware?

Yea - you could hook up a mic and start slammin' - or you could hook up a drum machine and wail - or easiest of all - just load the Edirol VCS (Virtual Sound Canvas) and have at it - draw in midi or hammer out some beats on your keyboard!!!

If you want something to make 'beats' without a lot of external hardware, look at Kinetic.

You could also import some loops and then slice and dice them in MC3.

just thougt id put in my 2 cents, use HammerHead Rhythm Station, best of all, its free! totaly completely free, but its limited. a good starter program for computer based drum loop creation. however there is possiblity to grow. there are 6 channels, and you can import your own sounds, that means that you can layer as many as your comuter can handle. its fun, hope you have som fun with it. nemoskull

fruity loops is good. i found hammerhead to be very limiting, granted it is free - so you can't expect a whole lot out of it. leafDrums is capable of creating beats, shareware for 30 days fully functional - you can import wav files into the sound dir and use those sound sto create beats.

You can lay down some good basic grooves with Session Drummer, make a midi track out of it, then go into staff view and tweak it up and make it your own.

If you want to make drum based tracks for backing beats, there is no better way than using acidized loops, and mixing in a format like acid from sony. Kenitic will do it too, but acid is the beat machine.

yea,
you can make beats in MC3, but Kinetic is more suited for that... But if you already have MC- u might as well break out the virtual sound canvas and have at it!
