Midi track muting sound on sound record

Hi I record a midi drum track (using usb port) then go to overdub another and the first track mutes. what's the solution for this. I'm sure I saw this asked before a while back.
Thanks

You might try to convert the midi track to audio. Don't know why it would not work as 2 midi tracks. If you are using Sonar 5 you might try to click on the echo track button.

Thanks for the response; not really the answer I am hoping for. The prob is if I record a drum midi track then go to overdub another part on same track the first track becomes muted. I can't hear it while I overdub, and have to move the new track to see it to unmute it .
    Thanks

I think you can adjust that, check the help screen I don't remember how it's done. You can set several options for tracking on both audio and midi tracks.

The other option is to use seperate tracks for each part that would make it easy to change drums later. Just set the output of each track to the same midi port or software module.

    Hi Steve-
erm...set your recording mode to sound on sound?

There's some problem with this, and I'm trying to remember exactly what it is. I don't think Audio SOS and MIDI SOS are handled quite the same in Loop recording mode. I had an exchange with TS a while back about it. When I have time later I'll see if I can find it.

Salsa, are you using Loop recording mode? If so, try turning that off. Previous tracks shouldn't be muted with that off. But be sure to check out all the options, as Frank suggests.

I'll look for that TS e-mail if this hasn't been resolved.

I'm not sure he's in "loop" recording mode. I generally do like Frank and record each of my drum parts on a different track. But you, of course, should be able to record onto an existing track...I do that all the time...without it muting. I still think he's not got his recording settings quite right. I bet this is something so simple it's evading us.

I think this would be the more viable solution.. ifnothing else is suggested
    thanks
