Was Kinetic really on sale for $29?

There was a thread about it that disappeared. Was it really available to registered Sonar 5 customers for $29?

I never got the email.

Was it some type of a practical joke?

I got an email from Cakewalk, yesterday. There's an offer for a download version of Pyro for $29 but no mention of Kinetic.

I am beginning to think it was a mistake, if in fact, there was an offer made. Hence, why the thread was pulled. Especially when registered Kinetic 1.0 users are expected to fork over $49, for the priviledge to upgrade to 2.0! That would be like Project 5 registered users being able to purchase a brand new full version of SONAR 6, for $99, two months after it's release, while registered SONAR 5 users had to pay $149, for the upgrade.

Great deal for P5 users, but a slap in the face to loyal SONAR users.

I could see maybe a K2 crossgrade deal, for the same upgrade fee that K1 users are now paying ($49), in maybe 6-12 months, but Kinetic 2.0 was just released 6-8 weeks ago.

I asked on this, and found out that there was a "test" version -It did exist but just for a very very limited window of time and only in a limited area... It's over now. It wasn't ever meant to be a regular thing.

    Sorry everyone.

I was told this is a test version also,(which how can you have a test version of something it's either a demo or the real thing,I think it was a test version as in the email not the product itself )but since I already had the first kinetic, I was told that this is the upgrade to the first so that is why I bought it online then I re-confirmed it on the phone

I got the same email as Twitch, but mine was for $39 instead of $29 for Sonar 5 Customers. I think it must have been a mistake, because when I tried the link it was $59 for Registered Cakewalk Customers even though the offer was suppose to be good until July 23. From the email I got it reads "Test Offer", so I really don't know what that's all about.

    Regards, JD....

As is always the case, email links that take you to a site that in the end will ask you for personal information are bad.
    I hope Cakewalk knows this.

I followed the link, carefully observing my network traffic, tried to purchase, but my perfectly working credit card was declined... hmm... I don't like that smell. I use that card all the time, and the numbers entered were correct.

Couldn't find anything that looked like fishing in the network traffic, and since some others seem to have called Cake about it it's probably not fishing.

    However,
    Cake... if you're listening:
It's generally a VERY bad idea to send emails, if this indeed came from you, that link to "purchase" sites.

I'm silly for having followed it, even if it turns out to be nothing wrong, but I did immediately cancel the card after the false auth failure.

Proceed with caution, since the site is still up from where I sit... not sure why it's hit or miss for others... another smelly thing.

    Take care,

Well, I never got an email.

I didn't really want Kinetic 2, but if it was only $29, I may have picked it up anyway. That's a good deal.

I got the email. Didn't save it tho. Kinetic for $29. Don't need it but thought it was a good deal. Seems like Cake is having a rash of these misleading/confusing offers lately. What up Dog?

I'd say it's just one more chapter in the "we can't get our email system to work -- it's too smart for us" saga.

Perhaps Cakewalk's next product should be a WORKING email mailing-list/distribution program.

Kinetic 2 for $29, and then $35 shipping to Canada. I'm not giving them a dime until they revisit their shipping policy to their North American neighbours, or until they realize it's 2006 and they could be providing downloadable versions as the majority in Canada have broadband.

I'm sure that the shipping part of that was only $5-10. You're forgetting about the HANDLING. That's where the big bucks are made.

[OK....I'm done posting sarcastic comments to this thread. For some reason this morning I just feel 'sarcastically inspired'. ]

Working fine for you, but not those of us who didn't get that offer... (I wonder if there are any book on dealing with Cakewalk email envy).

Heck, I didn't even get a response when I followed Cakewalk's advice on another thread about contacting support if you aren't receiving emails... Now I am just starting to feel a bit neglected...

Actually, that one turned out to be a mistake, but they honored it.
As a curiosity, did you try giving them a different email address? I had one address that they (Cakewalk and MOTU) couldn't/can't send email to, but changed to a different adress and it works fine now. Give them like 3 accounts... one of them is bound to work, and email accounts are free all over the place.
Given what I've seen on email account types, it's unlikely that this is solely Cakewalk's fault. Many ISPs filter email for you, separate from your spam filter you can control. They may or may not adjust the settings for you or even tell you one exists. I've seen this a lot...
Spam filter technology is still relatively new.

    For anyone with AOL:
I work on an app that provides email to people in "unusual" circumstances, and AOL is notorious, IMO, for just losing emails, even if you disable their spam filter. Out of the major players I've dealt with, they are the only one who seems to suffer from this "hidden" spam filter with no override. They also are well-known for holding on to emails for sometimes weeks, regardless of spam filter settings.
If you're trying an AOL account, try another one. Better yet, don't use the AOL email accounts at all.
    Just personal experience.

Thanks inmazevo. My ISP may have a filtering problem and I might just be getting all the spam and none of the authentic emails. I had changed the email addy that CW had on my account and they updated it when I got SONAR 5, which makes me think that the new address may have been lost in their system somehow. I use several email addresses with 2 personal domains, a record label domain, a hosting company domain, my ISP and a free account and it's often confusing for me so I have been trying to narrow the ones I use down to just a couple of domains. Now that I am thinking about it, I use the label one with CW and it is highly possible that I gave them an address that goes directly to the company and it was never forwarded to me, or was deleted accidently (that domain gets more spam than I ever thought anyone could get). I will email CW gain later.
