CPU upgrade: just swap?

Calling all Gurus!

Today I ordered an AMD X2 4800 to replace my A64 3500. I'm still not sure if I can just swap CPUs or if I will have to do a fresh install of XP.

My DAW is not connected to the internet and I'm still on SP1. Is that going to cause any issues? (in the past I've had some problems with my Tascam FW1082 after installing SP2, so I rolled back to SP1)

My mobo is an Asus A8V deluxe. (I may need to flash the bios to support the X2 4800, I'll check that when I get home)

Any help is greatly appreciated!

I don't think Windows XP will unregister it's self just for a CPU swap, if you have changed other things also it might. As long as your motherboard will take that CPU it should work just fine. If you run into problems reset the BIOS using the jumper and let it start over.

Yes, a Ghost of your OS partition would be handy at this point
